The Rabita Committee, in a press statement, issues on Sunday said that Mustafa Kamal had sent a letter regarding the resignation from his senate seat to the party leadership in November. However, the MQM is yet to take a decision to accept or decline it.
Mustafa Kamal was elected senator in March 2012 with his tenure coming to an end in March 2018.
The party said that for many months, Kamal had been caught up with personal issues and has been living abroad. They said that before leaving the country, he had informed the party about his personal issues.
Meanwhile, party sources say that Kamal had been unhappy over party policies and has been sidelined along with MQM’s former Rabita Committee’s deputy convener Anis Qaimkhani, who is also currently abroad.
However, the MQM denied there were any differences. Rabita Committee member Aminul Haque while talking to The Express Tribune said, “News circulating about differences emerging between the party and Mustafa Kamal is false. This is all propaganda against us.”
Mustafa Kamal was a popular figure amongst young party cadres and the general public in Karachi for the work done by him when he was the city nazim. While the party did not elaborate the reasons why Mustafa Kamal is no more active in the party politics or is out of the country, party leaders had earlier said that Kamal was abroad for the treatment of his ailing wife.
