BAHAWALPUR:

“The basic agenda of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is to empower the people,” Bahawalpur PPP Information Secretary Saleem Bhatti said on Saturday.

He was speaking on the occasion of the 46th anniversary of the party at his residence in Bahawalpur.

“The PPP has seen many ups and downs… after the dictatorial regimes of Ayub and Yahya, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto empowered the masses and took politics from drawing rooms of the privileged to the common man,” he said.

Bhatti said Bhutto gave Pakistan its first constitution, introduced comprehensive labour reforms and started the country’s nuclear programme.

“Benazir Bhutto, despite losing her father and brothers followed in her father’s footsteps to restore democracy,” he said.

Bhatti said Bilawal Bhutto had taken a bold stance for the rights of religious minorities and women.
