‘Delimitation set to be complete before deadline’

DC chairs committee meeting, asks for daily reports.

PESHAWAR: The district government called a meeting on Friday to start the delimitation process for union and village councils for the upcoming local government (LG) elections.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Syed Zaheerul Islam led the meeting held at the Peshawar District Council office to commence preparations for LG polls and in order to complete the delimitation process ahead of the date set for January 15.

District election commissioner, Additional Deputy Commissioner Amjad Khan Afridi, Assistant Commissioner Sardar Asad Haroon, Tehsildar Bakhtiyar Khan, Additional Commissioner Revenue Yousaf Kareem and all additional assistant commissioners were in attendance.

The participants were briefed over the delimitations made for union councillors in LG elections from 2001 to 2005.

DC Islam told the participants they should continue their work with transparency without any external pressure and should report to him daily.

Provincial revenue minister Ali Amin Gandapur said the government is using all its resources to improve the performance of the ministry and the delimitation process should be completed before the set date in order to hold LG election in February, 2014.

“Those who perform well will be rewarded while those who fail will be punished accordingly,” he added.

At the end of the meeting, the DC announced facilities for assistant director of LG department and his staff for showing good performance.
