Family ties: Under-construction market damaged in grenade attack

Investigation revealed Bilal and the accused were involved in a family dispute.

CHARSADDA:

An under-construction market was partially damaged when militants threw a hand grenade inside a building in Sardheri, Charsadda on Thursday.

Murad Khan, an official of Sardheri police, said that the incident occurred in Islamia Colony. He added that Bilal Ahmad, the owner of the market, was on his way to Islamabad when his neighbour informed him of the incident.



Ahmad told the police that his cousins Jamal, Jalal and Suliman threw the grenade in the market and escaped. Initial investigation revealed that Bilal and the accused were involved in a family dispute. The police have filed a case against the accused.



In an unrelated incident, the Shabqadar police, along with security forces, seized a large amount of explosives in a raid on Wednesday night. Khan Muhammad, a police official, told The Express Tribune that they raided Sheraz’s home in Katozai, Shabqadar. He added that they recovered 50 kilogrammes of explosives, a five kilogramme home-made bomb, four batteries, four detonators, 200 cartridges and one submachine gun. He claimed there was no one at home at the time of the raid and the culprits had fled before the police arrived.
