PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) sit-in against drone strikes continued for the third day in Peshawar, Express News reported on Tuesday.

The party had set up camp near the Hayatabad Toll Plaza on Sunday to monitor trucks passing through the city and prevent Nato containers from entering Peshawar.

Supporters of PTI and Jamaat-e-Islami were present at the protest camp and checking identification documents to distinguish Nato trucks from regular cargo carriers.

Coalition partners in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly had decided to block Nato supply routes in protest against the US drone campaign in Pakistan. The unmanned offensive was earlier limited to the tribal areas but was recently extended to K-P’s Hangu area.

Brawl

A few armed men got into a fight and opened fire near the PTI camp, causing panic. They tried to escape when the police arrived, however, officers arrested a suspect named Zaman and filed a case against him.

PTI Peshawar General Secretary Younis Zaheer told The Express Tribune that none of the people involved in the fight were PTI activists.

He said PTI supporters intervened to resolve the issue and had nothing to do with the fight.

DG Khan

In Dera Ghazi Khan, MNA Jamshed Dasti also held a sit-in along with his supporters. Members of religious parties were present at the protest as well.

Dasti said the routes will remain blocked until they are assured that there will be no more drone strikes.
