The PHF has also constituted a three-member committee for ensuring the age-limits are met with Rana Mujahid, Habib Ahmad and Shahid Ali Khan as its members.
“As a part of our developmental program at the grass-root level, we’re launching the Super Hockey League at the junior level,” the PHF Secretary Asif Bajwa told a media conference. “Best players from the league will be selected from the event and will have a chance to feature in the 2013 Junior World Cup.”
A total of eight teams will take part in the event – Lahore, Sialkot, Karachi, Faisalabad, Quetta, Islamabad, Peshawar and PHF Academy – with trials for each team taking place on October 18 and 19. This league will be played on round-robin basis.
“The significant part of the event is that all games will be telecasted on television and the prize-money of Rs2 million will be distributed among the players. Cash prizes will be given to the man of the match and a motorcycle awarded to the player of the tournament. The PHF is delivering 100 per cent of its plans and with this.
Criticism won’t hamper plans
According to the secretary, Pakistan hockey has been criticised following the results of the senior team and the PHF has never been appreciated.“Our focus will remain the same despite the criticism which has been a regular feature and will still be in place even if a new federation takes over. We’re working on the grass-root level, launching academies, organising championships, distributing equipment in schools. We’re sure the game will gain popularity once again.”
