LAHORE: An additional district and sessions judge on Thursday acquitted a man accused of abducting and murdering a child.

The court gave Sarwar Bashir the benefit of doubt. Bashir was accused of abducting Rimsha, an eight-year-old, and killing her.

Her father Muhammad Arshad had registered an FIR against Bashir at the Lower Mall police station.

He said her teacher had sent her to the market to get halwa-puri on June 16, 2008, but Rimsha did not return. The case was initially registered against unidentified suspects but the police found evidence against Bashir and arrested him. However, the prosecution failed to establish his guilt in the matter.
