KARACHI:

The provincial government of Sindh and the federal government have decided to start a joint operation against land mafia, which has encroached upon the railways properties in Karachi.

In this connection, Inspector General Police, Sindh and IG Railways would devise a joint plan within a few days so that work on Circular Railway project can be expedited.

This was stated by Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and Railways Minister Saad Rafique while addressing a joint press conference.

“We don’t want to displace the people who have made their abodes around the railways land, but tend to provide them alternative residential plots,” Rafique said briefing the media before a meeting in which officials of railways, police, Rangers and Karachi Circular Railways project participated.

“Strict action would be taken against those who have sold out the railways land for commercial purposes,” the minister said vowing to demolish buildings built on the railways property.

Rafique however avoided giving any deadline as to when the circular railways project will start.
