Masih remains unbeaten in 4th Snooker Cup

Cueist scores two consecutive victories on day three of national ranking event

KARACHI: Babar Masih continued his dominance in the Langnese 4th Ranking Snooker Cup by notching two more victories on day three while Mohammad Sajjad scored the highest break of the event so far with 133 points.

Masih, who had been on a giant killing after his impressive victories against world champion Mohammad Asif and Shahid Aftab, was in cruise control throughout the first match against Mohammad Yousuf. He won the game 4-1 with scores of 54-48, 31-76, 75-34, 66-04 and 71-64.

His next victim was youngster Mohsin Amin who went down with a similar scoreline as Masih came back from a set down to win four successive frames.

Meanwhile, Sajjad defeated Farhan Noor 4-2 and in the process hit two century breaks one of which was the best recorded in the competition so far.

He won with a scoreline of 09-72, 71-17, 0-101(100), 66-33, 72-06 and 133(133)-0.

However, he was cut down to size in his next match by Asif, who chalked up a 4-0 win by 53-42, 67-15, 68-08 and 55-10.

Aftab kept himself in the semi-finals running by racking up two more victories as he won with scorelines of 4-1 against Amir Tariq and Farhan Noor respectively.

He hit two century breaks on the day, with the tournament beginning to become more challenging, as there are only four places up for grabs for the semi-finals.

In other matches, Hamza Akbar hit back from 2-1 down to win 4-2 against Abdul Sattar with scores of 56-58, 54-41, 56-68, 73-37, 97-0 and 74-37 while Khurram Agha pipped Mohammad Majid Ali 4-2 as well.
