As the situation of the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in Philippines deteriorates day by day, famous celebrities have united to do as much as they possibly can to support the affected. According to E! Online, celebrities like Katy Perry, Kristen Bell and Selena Gomez took to Twitter to spread the word about UNICEF’s relief efforts, urging people to make a contribution. “Support UNICEF’s emergency: Help kids in the #Philippines affected by #Haiyan. How to help: http://uncf.us/1iS7EDh,” tweeted Gomez.

Former footballer David Beckham and wife Victoria Beckham have gone a step further in doing their part. The couple, who is famous for their refined sartorial taste, has donated some of their best designer clothes, expected to raise thousands of pounds, to the British Red Cross Shop Drop for typhoon victims. The donations consist of David’s Dolce and Gabbana suits and some of his favourite pieces from his baseball cap collection. Victoria, aka Posh, has donated a 100 pairs of heels, along with the dress she wore to the Venice Film Festival in 2006. The clothes will be up for auction on Friday at the organisation’s shop in Kensington and Chelsea in London.

“Typhoon Haiyan has devastated the Philippines, killing thousands and leaving hundreds of thousands homeless. The British Red Cross is now carrying out an enormous humanitarian relief project to help all those people in desperate need,” said Victoria, according to the Daily Mail. “David and I are supporting the Red Cross Shop Drop for the Philippines campaign, and we urge everyone in Britain to do the same. Everyone has something in their closet they were holding onto — a dress, suit, or pair of shoes they thought they might wear again. Dig them out, bag them up, drop them off and give someone else the chance to buy them, raising much needed funds for the Red Cross aid effort. Thank you.”

It is a wonderful gesture by the couple and their efforts have not been overlooked by the British Red Cross. “We are delighted to have Victoria and David’s support for the British Red Cross Shop Drop for Philippines,” said Mark Astarita, British Red Cross Director of Fundraising. “Their generous donation will enable us to raise significant funds towards the enormous humanitarian operation currently underway.”
