Seven members of a family were killed when the roof of their kitchen collapsed in Sarbanday village of Matta tehsil on Friday evening.

According to Matta police, the roof of Faridon Khan’s residence caved in, crushing the inhabitants under its weight. “The family was sitting around a fire in the kitchen after dinner when the roof collapsed, killing five people, including three children, on the spot and injuring two others,” said a police official.

He added the injured were rushed to Tehsil Hospital Matta from where they were referred to Saidu Teaching Hospital (STH), however, both of them succumbed to their wounds. The deceased were identified as Raham Shah, Zamarud, Bacha Rom, Najiba, Sana, Adil and Taqwa.

Locals said the house was made of mud and stones and therefore not durable.
