Bomb attacks in Peshawar, DI Khan and Bannu kill one police officer, injure 16 other law enforcing personnel.

PESHAWAR/ BANNU/ DI KHAN: A day after Muharram processions concluded peacefully throughout Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where extraordinary security measures were adopted, security personnel were attacked in three separate districts with bombs, including a suicide attack. At least one law enforcing officer was killed and 16 others were injured.

On Saturday morning, a police mobile van was targeted by a remote controlled bomb in Peshawar, injuring an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Police.

“It was a five kilogramme bomb to target the police, undoubtedly,” a Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) official told The Express Tribune about the blast near Safan police post on Kohat Road, Peshawar.

Later in the day the day another bomb targeted the police officials in Kulachi area of Dera Ismail Khan. The attack killed a police officer and injured eight others.

A police officials who managed to escape  unhurt told The Express Tribune, that a convoy of police personnel was passing over a bridge in the Gurjana village when the attack happened. He said that while one of the vans managed to cross safely, another larger vehicle carrying almost thirty police personnel fell prey to the bomb.

“The bomb was planted at the side of the road.”

The injured were rushed to the District Headquarter Hospital.

Suicide bombing in Bannu

In another incident, six people including security personnel were injured in Bannu, when a suicide bomber riding a Qingqi rickshaw rammed his vehicle into a convoy of the Frontier Corps who were travelling to the main city.

Security personnel rushed to the site of the incident and collected evidence. A senior police officials said that the body parts of the bomber were recovered from under a bridge while further investigations were underway.
