KARACHI: Sindh Rangers have been given special powers for four months under the recently promulgated Tahafuz-e-Pakistan Ordinance to detain suspects for interrogation and shoot to kill resisting suspects, official sources said on Sunday.

Earlier, Rangers had to hand over the suspects to the police within 24 hours of the arrest.

The provincial government has granted policing powers to Rangers for four months on the directives of the federal government. According to sources in Rangers a notification in this regard has also been issued.

With these special powers, Rangers will be able to keep suspects into their custody for three months for investigation after producing them before a relevant court within 24 hours of the arrest. Rangers have also been authorised to shoot and kill if they face resistance from the criminals.
