HEC sent 672 scholars abroad during five years

Higher Education Commission (HEC) during the last five years (2009-13) has sent 672 scholars abroad on scholarships for PhD and Master’s programmes.      


According to documents available with APP, a total of 1,255 scholars completed PhD and returned to Pakistan during the same period.

However, this number also includes scholars who had been sent for PhD studies earlier since it takes about a minimum of three to five years to complete PhD studies.

An official told this agency that the total budget of the HEC for financial year 2013-14 is 57.49 billion which includes recurring and development amount.

Outstanding Awards

HEC has invited applications from researchers and scholars for HEC outstanding research awards.

Talking to APP on Sunday, an official of HEC said the awards will be given for best research paper, best young research scholar, best innovator and best book publication.

Responding to a question, he said awards will be given in disciplines of Biological Sciences, Engineering Technology, Basic Applied Sciences, Management Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities.

“Applicants must be citizens of Pakistan, submissions must be based on original work in their specific fields and research work must have been initiated in Pakistan and at least 80 per cent completed in Pakistan. For best book and best research paper, the material must be a year old.
