Rehabilitation: Rs5 million given to 239 flood-affected

'Government had spent Rs600 million on the rehabilitation of the flood affected,' says minister.

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Zahid Hamid on Sunday distributed compensation cheques of Rs5 million among 239 flood affected people in the Pasrur tehsil during a ceremony.


MPA Chaudhry Munawwar Ali Gill, Assistant Commissioner Touqeer Ilyas Cheema, Planning and Development Committee Chairman Shehzad Butt and PML-N leaders were present at the occasion.

Hamid said cheques would soon be distributed among those affected by Indian shelling.

He said the government had given Rs30,000 each to those whose houses had been completely destroyed in the flood, and Rs15,000 each to those whose houses were partially damaged.

He said the government had spent Rs600 million on the rehabilitation of the flood affected.

As many as 109 people were killed in the recent flood across the Punjab. The minister said the government had already paid Rs0.5 million each to the families of those who had lost their lives in the recent floods in Narowal district.
