The two former allies made the announcement at a press conference at the residence of ANP leader and senator, Shahi Syed. A delegation of PPP leaders, including Qadir Patel, met Shahi Syed and other leaders of ANP Sindh.
"PPP and ANP workers share very close affiliations on the grassroot level," said Patel. "To a large extent, this is a very natural, organic association."
Both the parties have formed district-level committees which will examine the possibility of seat adjustment for the posts of chairperson, vice chairperson and councillor in the respective areas.
The PPP leader went on to say that his party was in touch with other political parties as well.
"We want to see the 'real Karachi mandate' emerging," Patel added.
Patel had suggested a couple of months ago that the PPP should form a grand alliance with several political outfits excluding the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, for the Sindh local government elections.
"On the behalf of PPP, I suggest that PTI, PAT, PML-N and JI forge an alliance, so that the terrorists lose their fake mandate and the real peacemakers come into power," he had said.

@Shahid: It's a very irresponsible statement from you to use the term "Mohajir Republic." Muslims from India migrated to Pakistan to become part of it, not to form a separate 'republic.' A separate province of Karachi and maybe Southern Sindh is needed for administrative purposes not only for so-called "Mohajirs" but also for all the residents of Karachi which includes Sindhis, Balochis, Punjabis, Pathans, Bengalis, Biltis, and others. Demographics of the country has changed and so should the geographical boundaries of the provinces. More than Sindh, Punjab needs to have the boundaries redrawn. India started out with 11 provinces in 1947 and now has 28 provinces and is considering establishing more.
ECP itself is in alliance with sindh government of PPP.
When did he become "Sardar"? Do u know he is actually Kutchi and betrayed his own people to support Aman Committee?
you are right @abdullah:
Shahi Syed is my Hero....
@Dera Khan: I agree. It's funny how these people try so hard to work against the MQM, and the MQM always comes out on top. Not only will the MQM use the Mohajir card to clean sweep urban Sindh, but the Mohajir card will be used for a Mohajir province, or possibly, a Mohajir Republic.
@Arzoo: comprehensive comments
It is laughable to see the attempts by these myopic elements to win over the geography of Karachi without trying to win over the heart and soul of its residents. A sensible opposition would have presented its program for resolving the urban issues of Karachi rarher than making it a zero sum game just to defeat mqm. Lets face it. If PPP tries to say or do something really sincere for karachi, it would face an uphill battle in the rural areas. ANP is of course irrelevant to Karachi's socio-economic development as it only has an ethnic element when it comes to Karachi. Interestinly all these attempts by 'outsiders' to win over Karachi only serves to strengthen the mqm! Let whoever aspiring to rule Karachi say or do something sincere for karachi.
MQM has no support left in Karachi, I live here and I know nobody from DHA to Sohrab Goth that still supports this fake political party
Not only will the MQM clean sweep Karachi and Hyderabad, but will also dominate Mirpurkhas. The Mohajir demographics have sharply increased in urban Sindh, and the MQM will or should play the Mohajir card for superb results in elections. The more the PPP and ANP or possibly other parties unite, the more the Mohajirs will vote for MQM.
Right on the spot Mr.Patel. A city like Karachi with cosmopolitan nature and multiple communities sharing this gigantic city. They all must be represented into elections. But you exposed in your press conference the party which hijacks elections by manipulating process. Stay strong, and unite for free and fair elections so that will people come out and those who does politics of hate, violence, and ethnicity must face the defeat.
If ECP does its job properly in stopping fake voting and controlled elections. Namaloom afrad party wont get the lions share in elections. They always hijack elections. Give Karachi a fair election and pure people's mandate. That is only solution for lasting peace and stability. ECP must ensure free and fair elections.
People who never learn from there previous experience are called stupid. We as karachi walay have experienced the best from Mr. Mustafa Kamal PPP and ANP together can not do what MQM did in there tenure.
To be honest karachi is only PTI vs MQM .. these all are thugs to be honest. with no support what so ever. Not to forget mqm is not one as well but atleast it has some support among masses.
Its ok to make alliances, but all parties should recognize each other mandates. Karachi has overwhelmingly voted for MQM. Yes there is an issue with the military wing of the party, however all parties in karachi have one now. The main issue is law and order for which an comprehensive, fair operation should be carried out by the rangers and military. Many of my friends and family changed alliances from MQM to PTI in the recent elections, but have been very disappointed by Imran Khans Pro Terrorist stance and performance of the KPK govt.
PPANP vs PTIJI vs MQM.
Even if all forces combined wre against lone rager MQM, Haq Parast would still win. Thank you for dividing yourself :-)
such action will further polarize the already strained atmosphere of Karachi.....when will these politicians grow.?..all political parties must play their positive role and avoid turf war.
The alliance of PPP and ANP failed to conduct Local government elections for 5 long years. Now they are making an alliance again, i hope people have seen their reality and their sincerity in devolving powers to the lowest levels.
lol @ real Karachi mandate
Wrong approach by people who do not have Karachi's interest at heart. MQM is not without blame in hard muscling to achieve its' goals, but still seems to be the choice of an overwhelming majority of Karachi's residents. Political activists have to learn that you cannot achieve good results by implementing bad strategies overlooking people's wishes and desires. If real representatives of people are excluded by legal maneuvers it will give rise to undemocratic conditions. Correct approach would be for PPP and others they are trying to woo is to raise and work for issues that are dear to Karachi's residents: safety and security, law and order, respect from law enforcing agencies, proper traffic management, efficient public transportation, electricity, water, and gas. And a fundamental necessity of Karachi's residents is jobs and employment for people of Karachi, not to bring in people from rural areas to staff Karachi's bureaucracy and Karachi's police.
Both these parties could do nothing to develop Karachi, esp the only ANP MPA and minister who went from rags to riches.
What is real democracy and what is real mendate? If you had asked BB, she would not accept any dispensation as democratic if she was not PM. NS only accepted PPP eyeing on next term.
For Imran Khan and Haroon Rasheed (he recently had a change of heart), only real mendate of karachi will be acceptable if MQM looses elections. As far as people of karachi are concerned, all of pakistan has left no option for them but vote for MQM.
