Local body polls: 34 non-judicial officers appointed as ROs for Lahore

New voter list following updated delimitation will be completed by Sunday.

LAHORE: In a departure from the method adopted for the general election in the May elections, the Election Commission notified on Saturday that District Coordinating Officers (DCOs) will serve as District Returning officers during the upcoming local government elections. New voter lists to be displayed by Sunday.

The provincial election commission office on Saturday notified 34 returning officers (ROs) for Lahore, who are city district administration officers of grade 17. They will oversee 276 union councils (UCs) in Lahore, with each RO overseeing as many as eight UCs.

Candidates can obtain nomination papers will be available from the offices of Returning officers from Sunday.

The DCO Lahore chaired a meeting regarding holding of Local Government Election. All Returning officers and Assistant Returning officers attended the meeting.

DCO Lahore briefed the participants about the importance of this assignment and its transparency. The District Election Commissioner also briefed the Returning officers about their duties.

New voter lists

The election commission said that they are preparing a new voter list according to the updated delimitation of the city and that the lists will be ready by Sunday.

The lists will be made available at the Town Municipal Offices and the office of the Assistant Commissioner.
