A policeman was told to pay Rs1 million as fine by a jirga held in Haji Najam Jarwar village near Thull in district Jacobabad on Thursday to settle a karo-kari dispute. The jirga was jointly headed by Jehangir Banglani and Haji Najam Jarwar. Besides a large number of villagers, police constables Nizamuddin Banglani and Noor Hassan Jarwar were also present. After hearing both sides of the story and the witnesses’ account, the jirga held a discussion and passed its verdict. Banglani was found guilty of having an extramarital affair with Noor’s wife. Both the parties accepted the verdict of the jirga and Banglani paid Rs200,000 upfront and promised to pay the remaining amount in three equal installments. Four months ago, Noor declared his wife kari alleging that she was having an extramarital affair with his colleague Banglani and then divorced her. Later, he sought the support of the elders.
