According to a statement from a Chief Minister House spokesperson, Muzaffar cited personal and health issues as reasons behind his resignation.
The resignation has been sent to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, but no decision has been taken on it so far. Express News correspondent GM Jamali added that a meeting by the Sindh Chief Minister is currently underway at the CM House in Karachi to deliberate over Muzaffar's resignation.
According to the Express News Karachi Bureau Chief Aslam Khan the news about Muzaffar's resignation came shortly after the local government minister briefed the media about plans for an extensive crackdown on the tanker mafia and illegal hydrants in the city. He seemed to be in a jovial mood during the press conference.
Muzaffar, who is also the chairman of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, has been working against unlicensed water hydrants in the city for siphoning off water illegally and his efforts against these elements were gaining steam in recent days.
Muzaffar holds portfolios for Local Government, Housing & Town Planning, Rural Development & Public Health Engineering.
Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon was handed interim charge of Muzaffar's portfolios till a permanent replacement is decided upon.

@ arzoo, you are very right about his efforts against water mafia, he was working in the right direction. Water mafia, which includes some big names from PPP and MQM is behind his resignation, they must have given him and his family life threats.
Rangers control most of the hydrants in the city. Army chief was in the city yesterday and present at the Rangers HQ. Everyone can now draw their own conclusions.
Is he going to be CM of Sindh? or home minister?

recently some people were arrested for running illegal hydrants...but was released by the order of ex-I.G.P.
Obviously Owais Muzaffar's efforts in combating the water mafia was beginning to bear fruits and was applauded by all the various communities of Karachi. Citing personal reasons and health issues seems to be a diplomatic way to bow out of a situation under which he was probably not at liberty to work freely. One of the role of the media, at least in developed societies, is to bare the truth through investigative journalism. It would not be difficult to find out the real reasons for this effective minister's resignation through interviews with the right politicians and analysts. Finding the truth will be in the public interest of our already oppressed people. Is our media up to the job???? That is the question!!!!!
