KARACHI: Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani on Monday appreciated efforts of Rangers in bringing back peace in Karachi, Radio Pakistan reported.

During his visit to Pakistan Rangers Sindh Headquarters in Karachi on Monday‚ the army chief hoped that Sindh Rangers would live up to its rich tradition of bravery and sheer professionalism to bring peace and law and order back to the city.

A detailed briefing was given to Kayani regarding operational and administrative aspects of Sindh Rangers.

His meeting came on a day when at least four Shia Muslims, including two doctors, were gunned down and three others were injured in different parts of Karachi in alleged acts of sectarian violence just days before the month of Muharram is due to begin.

Police and Rangers have said that they are carrying out operations against criminal groups to curb sectarian and political killings in the city.
