Appearing firm on his party’s stance of blocking Nato supply routes, Chief Minister (CM) Pervez Khattak announced the provincial cabinet will endorse the resolution on the matter. The resolution is expected to be tabled on today (Monday) and adopted unanimously by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Assembly.
Khattak was speaking at a gathering in Sum Elahi Mang village, Mansehra where former Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid’s provincial minister Shahzada Gustasib Khan announced he was joining the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) with his supporters, including former nazims and naib nazims.
Discussing the Nato supply route, Khattak said it will only be reopened once the US government ends drone strikes in Pakistan. The PTI had warned the US government against drone strikes during negotiations with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The drone attack on TTP’s chief was meant to sabotage peace efforts, insisted Khattak.
“We will block Nato’s supply at every cost; a cabinet meeting has been convened for Monday.” The K-P Assembly will adopt a unanimous resolution against the movement of Nato supplies, added Khattak.
“The last drone attack has revealed those who aren’t happy with the efforts of bringing peace in Pakistan.” The PTI will take all political parties in confidence before tabling the resolution, added the CM.
Reiterating PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s resolve to put an end to ‘the culture of have and have nots,’ Khattak said his party is pulling its weight to bring about a revolution aimed at ensuring equality between the children of the poor and the wealthy. Calling the country ‘the domain of the affluent class,’ the CM went on to point out a majority in the country were not wealthy and were discriminated against.
However, he continued, the PTI will put an end to this culture and provide equal opportunities for education and health to the public and holding the corrupt accountable.
The K-P government intends to carve out a Hazara province and the pending resolution on this will be adopted very soon, added Khattak.
Protest over transferred DPO
Local traders and transporters observed a ‘black day’ on the arrival of CM Khattak and hoisted black flags on shops and roundabouts in the city.
The protest marked the transfer of former Mansehra DPO Abdul Ghafoor to DI Khan.
Led by Hafiz Eijazur Rehman, the demonstrators held a car rally, with vehicles sporting black flags.
