Widespread disease: Traders demand transplant institute

FAISALABAD: The government needs to establish an Institute of Urology and Kidney Transplant in Faisalabad where complaints of kidney and bladder diseases are increasing, a statement released by the Anjuman-i-Tajran on Tuesday reads. The joint statement by Anjuman-i-Tajran president Khawaja Shahid Razzaq Sakka and General Secretary Mehmood Alam Jat states that even though urologists at the Punjab Medical College and Allied Hospital were doing their best to provide treatment to kidney and urological disease patients, more facilities were needed. “Faisalabad lies in a ‘kidney stone belt’. Chemicals released by industrial units are responsible for rampant kidney and urological diseases in this region,” the statement reads. Saka and Jat requested Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to approve the establishment of an Institute of Urology and Kidney Transplant. They urged Health Minister Khalil Tahir Sindhu to submit a recommendation to the chief minister in this regard.
