LAHORE: The procedure for the appointment of judges is not based on merit and should be amended as per the recommendations of the Pakistan Bar Council, said former Supreme Court Bar Association president Asma Jahangir on Monday. Talking to reporters at the Lahore High Court, Jahangir said that the high court chief justices should not take suo motu action, as the Constitution did not allow it. She said that litigants should retain the right to appeal or review decisions of the Supreme Court. Common citizens were not being provided justice by the courts, she added. The Senate is currently discussing judicial matters at its session in Islamabad.
