LAHORE:

An additional district and sessions judge has sought comments from the Nishtar Colony SHO for October 28 on a petition seeking a case against a man for allegedly failing to register a nikah.

Petitioner Naila Riaz submitted that after she had divorced her husband on March 3, she had married a man named Latif. He had drawn up nikah documents, but she later found out that he had not registered them, she said.

A month after their marriage, she said, their relationship fell apart as he began abusing her verbally and physically.

He began saying that since their nikah had not been registered, she was a prostitute in his eyes, she said.

The petitioner said that she had approached the SHO, but he did not register a case.

She asked the court to direct the SHO to register a case against Latif for betraying her trust by not getting their nikah registered.

In a civilized society, this woman would be provided justice. In Pakistan she will thrown in jail under the charge of adultery. Wait and watch.
