WFP Donation: Govt releases remaining wheat

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Economic Coordination Committee has announced the release of 75,000 metric tons of wheat to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). This completes the entire donation of 150,000 metric tons pledged by government of Pakistan for 2013. This latest contribution follows sizeable in-kind donations from the federal government and the provincial governments of Sindh and Balochistan last year. “This year’s donation, valued at Rs5.5 billion, places Pakistan as WFP’s second largest donor in the country in 2013 and demonstrates the government’s continued ownership of the development process and a strong commitment to helping its people in need.
