At least 13 people were killed and around 55 others injured in separate road accidents across the province on Thursday and Friday.


Lakki Marwat

Four people were killed and 22 others injured in multiple mishaps in Lakki Marwat on Thursday. A city police official said four motorbikes skidded and collided with each other in Mela Shahab Khel, killing four people. Elsewhere, a vehicle turned over in Darra Tang, leaving 12 people injured. In Darra Paizo, a pickup van turned over on Indus Highway, leaving 10 others injured. The driver of the van was reportedly trying to avoid a collision with a motorcyclist. Separate cases have been filed against the accused.

DI Khan

Five people were killed and one other person was injured in separate road mishaps in the district.

In Mandhara Kalan, a passenger pickup rammed into a motorbike, killing the three men travelling on the two-wheeler, while a passenger hanging out from the vehicle was also severely injured. A city police official said one of the men riding the motorbike succumbed to his injuries on the way to District Headquarters Hospital, DI Khan.

Separately, two teenagers were killed when their motorbike rammed into a roadside barrier on Chashma Road. A Chashma police official said the two teenagers were en route to a picnic when the accident occurred. He added the victims hit their heads on concrete blocks, resulting in their immediate demise.

Landikotal

Two minors were killed and the driver was severely injured when a car plunged into a deep ravine in Landikotal tehsil of Khyber Agency. A political administration official said the car was en route to Peshawar when it met with the accident in Ashkhel. The minors, identified as Zulfikar and Abdul Basit, died on the spot as a result.

Nowshera

One person was killed and 16 others were injured when a passenger van collided with an oil tanker near Risalpur on Friday. A Risalpur police official said the oil tanker was en route to Nowshera on Nowshera-Mardan Road when it rammed into the passenger van, which was on its way to Mardan. One person was killed while 16 others were said to be injured till the filing of this report. The injured were rushed to District Headquarters Hospital, Nowshera while three critically wounded persons were referred to Peshawar.

The police official said the driver of the van managed to escape after the incident, claiming it was due to his negligence that the accident occurred as he was over speeding.

Mardan

A teenager was killed and seven others were injured in separate road accidents in Matta and Inzargai on Thursday. Nineteen-year-old Mushtaq was commuting on his motorbike when he had a collision with another two-wheeler, killing him on the spot. Elsewhere, four other motorbikes collided with each other, injuring seven people including a woman. They were rushed to Mardan Medical Complex and separate cases were filed against the accused for over speeding. Police also impounded the vehicles.

Shangla

Eight people were injured when a passenger pickup plunged into a deep ravine in Alpuri, Shangla district on Thursday.

An Alpuri police official said a pickup loaded with passengers was on its way to Kohistan from Mingora when it fell into the gorge, injuring eight passengers. He added locals rushed to the site and shifted the injured to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Alpuri while two people were referred to Saidu Teaching Hospital, Swat due to their critical condition. A case was registered against the driver for over speeding.
