The attack reportedly took place when the minister was meeting visitors at his traditional village in Kulachi, which is located 45 kilometers from Dera Ismail Khan.
Gandapur had been elected during the May elections from PK-67 DI Khan-IV as an Independent but he later joined the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

Express News correspondent Ramzan Seemab reported that Gandapur’s brother, Ikramullah Gandapur was also injured in the attack.
Police said a suicide bomber targetted Gandapur.

Police and rescue services have been dispatched to the site from DI Khan city, however, the poor roads may delay their arrival to the site.
This is the third PTI MPA from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa to be killed since the May elections.

Interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan expressed sorrow over the attack. He further sought a report from IG Police Khyber Pakhunkhwa on the incident.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Shaukatullah and Chief Minister Parvez Khattak also strongly condemned the attack.
This was not the first attack on Gandapur. Earlier in April, his convoy was attacked prior to the May elections.
Two roadside bombs detonated near his vehicle as he was heading from Kulachi to Rohri to address a gathering on April 25. When his vehicle reached Gor Guldad at around 10am, two bombs exploded.
Gandapur escaped unhurt.
PTI Information Secretary MNA Shireen Mazari said that Gandapur had talked of threats just two days before the attack.

This whole situation has become a mess. No one knows the solution, because no one knows who the real enemy is, i.e. who is funding TTP? How do they keep on producing bomb after bomb? I'm no security expert, but making a bomb must require a lot of technical know-how, time, resources and finances? How do they get all of this without ever getting caught? That's insane. How does the funding reach them? Is there no audit trail of the finances? Where do they operate from in order to logistically plan attacks like these, make these bombs, brainwash people into becoming suicide bombers, and look after themselves? What is the army, intelligent agencies and police doing to stop them from planning these attacks?
I would like the answers to the above. I'm very confused and the whole situation is a just mess and no one exactly knows what's going on, including the provincial and federal government. May Allah help the innocent. But my gut instinct is that these terrorists (TTP) are funded and supported by foreign forces. Who those foreign forces may be, I don't know. But one thing I can comprehend is that without the technical, logistical and financial support of powerful forces, there's no way on earth these terrorists can continue to make one bomb after another and find suicide bombers who are willingly to blow themselves up whilst they themselves sit in their comfort zone.
Has anyone claimed responsibility for this act cold-blooded murder? Surely, it cannot be the TTP whom the TIP supports in every possible way, has suggested the opening of an office for and depicts them as wronged modern day "Robin Hoods" out to seek justice and the perfect way of life under Sharia for the people of Pakistan.
