ISLAMABAD: New National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry in a high level meeting, directed the formation of a special committee for resolving pending cases, Radio Pakistan reported on Monday.

At the Islamabad meeting, it was decided that the new committee will open pending cases in regional NAB offices.

The committee, headed by Deputy Chairman NAB, will start functioning immediately after the Eid holidays end.

The committee will be tasked to expedite disposal of those cases pending for over three years.

Chaudhry, who was appointed last week, had told his staff that he wanted to put his own house in order first.

“The nation is in a state of war, not only against terrorism, but also against the scourge of corruption. And we cannot win this war unless we put the NAB in order,” Chaudhry told his staff on Saturday.

Chairing a meeting of operations and other departments, he said an extra effort must be put in to ensure transparency and an evenhanded approach.

The first and foremost for good administrative reasons and otherwise, those who are facing charges and against whom cases registered should be removed from their positions forthwith and suspended so that they may not be able first to influence the investigations against them, be able to tamper record and destroy the valuable evidence against them and abort prosecution case and use the valuable resources of the respective institutions they are commanding to salvage themselves by footing their expensive legal expenses and engaging high cost counsels instead of bearing themselves dishonestly charging to the institution.

The case in point is National Bank of Pakistan where simultaneously three Presidents/CEO have been sent out on corruption charges. But their other colleague senior executives equally responsible, charged, on interim bails which are not being confirmed, are still holding same positions of authority and enjoying all powers and pelf effectively able to influence all inquiries and investigations proceeding against them and to tamper record and destroy valuable evidences etc.

The investigation agency when approaches for record, it is the coterie of same people who not only not cooperate with them but take every possible maneuver to fail inquiries against them and to continue playing havoc with the public institutions and finances.

The NAB will be better advised, if found such cases, to frame separate charge of stealing the institutions resources for their own corrupt causes.

Even kids won't get fooled with a magic hat trick like this. Expedite the 'acquittal' of all PML-N and PPP corruption cases except those with home Nawaz or Zardari have a personal vendetta, which will also prove useful to show that 'indeed' Mr. NAB Chief is impartial *cough. . The leader of the only true opposition in Pakistan is Imran Khan.
