Lean, participatory Balochistan cabinet sworn in

QUETTA: No women or minorities minister took oath on Monday as the Balochistan cabinet swelled to 14 members, five months after the May, 2013 elections.

Governor Balochistan Mohammed Khan Achakzai administered oath of 11 new ministers during a ceremony held at Governor House.

Chief Minister Abdul Malik Baloch, who was present on the occasion told the media that he would also issue a notification about his advisers, namely Khalid Langov, PML-N’s Akbar Askani and Majid Abro. The portfolios have not been distributed among the new ministers.

The oath-taking ceremony took place amidst tight security with contingents of police, paramilitary troops, Frontier Corps (FC) and other law enforcement agencies deployed at the location. Traffic leading to Governor House was also suspended.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) ministers who took oath include Nawabzada Jangez Marri, Izhar Hussain Khosa, Sardar Sarfraz Domki, Mir Sarfraz Bugti while Jaffar Khan Mandokhel were sworn in from Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q).

The PML-Q minister was given a seat from PML-N's share.

National Party’s Sardar Aslam Bizenjo, Rehmat Saleh Baloch and Mujeeb ul Rehman Mohammed Hassani were also sworn in while Hamid Khan Achakzai, Nawab Ayaz Khan Jogezai and Sardar Mustafa Khan Tareen took oath from Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP).

The cabinet formed after the 2002 general elections had 45 members serving in the cabinet. Following the 18th Amendment, provincial governments are required to have 14 ministers in the cabinet.
