Singer and musician Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was remembered on his 65th birth anniversary on Sunday.


Khan, who hailed from Faisalabad, was born on October 13, 1948. His father, Ustad Fateh Ali Khan, a prominent musician, vocalist and qawwal, taught him the eastern classical music.

When Khan was 16, his father died. Khan made his first public appearance at his father’s chehlum; and never looked back.

His distinctive voice and live performances gained popularity when Radio Pakistan broadcast a qawwali on the eve of Jashn-i-Baharan. More success followed when his qawwali, Haq Ali Ali, became an instant hit.Khan recorded 125 qawwali albums altogether. His qawwalis Meri Toba Meri Toba, Dum Mast Qalandar Mast Mast‚ Ali Maula Ali and Yeh Jo Halka Halka Suroor were massive hits. He was famous for leaving his audience spellbound.Khan died of a cardiac arrest on August 16, 1997.

No one like him. He was a legend in every way. haven't heard a heart-touching voice as his after he left...rest in peace!
