More patients: Dengue cases rise

The total number of dengue patients in Swat rose to 8,116 after 76 new cases were identified in the district on Thursday.


According to Saidu Teaching Hospital (STH) spokesperson Dr Wasil Ahmed Khan, 59 more patients confirmed to be suffering from the virus were admitted to the hospital, taking the total number of registered patients to 4,381.

“However, 49 patients were discharged from the hospital after complete recovery. So far, 4,080 patients have been cured and discharged from STH,” he added.

He said 172 patients including 104 males and 68 females are presently undergoing treatment at STH. “Twenty-four patients, including 19 males and five females, are suffering from complications and are being treated in the intensive care unit.”

Meanwhile, the number of people affected with dengue reached 408 at District Headquarters Hospital, Bisham on Thursday after 37 more cases were registered.

Dr Mansoor, who is in-charge of the hospital, said 59 people were brought in, among which 37 tested positive. He added all the dengue tests are conducted free of charge.

The hospital is presently facing a shortage of beds, while the district administration is yet to take notice of the issue.
