So far, Boss has been advertised for a local release with subject to censors while distributors of Waar are aiming to capture around 50 screens in Pakistan. If Boss is not forced into a delay or a possible ban by committees that often visit the culture ministry to “protect the national interest” then, the local box office this Eid would portray the true potential of a big-budget Pakistani film in presence of a genuine competitor.
If both films release on Eid, then Waar is expected to do better business at the local box office, whereas Boss is just going to steal a minor share of its success refraining Waar from reaching a major milestone. Nonetheless, the audiences and multiplexes will have two big films to choose from and the footfall of one film will help the other.

I like lollywood movie waar
Bollywood copy Hollywood movies every now and then, even though Pakistani movies are low budgeted but good movies are totally original
Bollywood fans are eagerly waiting for Akshay's upcoming movie Boss and the action hero Akshay Kumar is all set to woo his fans with his upcoming action drama film 'Boss', which is today's big Eid release.
Waar will easily defeat boss in pakistan. As boss is looking like old action comedy and has nothing new.
guys stop fighting like idiots. boss will be a hit but clearly waar will win the war. i have always been watching bollywood movies and i will watch boss but this EID definitley i will watch waar first then boss.
What!!!! pakistan has a film industry? this is news to me.
People above have posted nonsense comments above comparing Bollywood to Lollywood. C'mon people have some brains! Bollywood just celebrated 100 years of cinema and what has Lollywood achieved so far? Every Friday 2-3 movies are released in India, sadly Pakistan produces 2-3 movies a year. There is no comparison in both the movie industries! Secondly, y do people start fighting over Hindus and Muslims OR Pakistanis and Indians? We are humans, we should acknowledge each other efforts rather than commenting biased comments! Please people, GROW UP!!
@everyone. You people are so immature. Who says Bollywood is rubbish? It's not industry's fault if you yourself choose to watch rubbish. In fact, you lack knowledge. Go watch films like "Gangs of Wassaypur", "Ship of Thesis", "Lunchbox", Kai Po Che" and many more!
And who says Pakistani actors are not talented. It's Bollywood's own fault if they choose people like Ali Zafar and Veena Malik. Pakistan has outstanding talent with actors like Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, and many more.
Lastly please learn to compete. Accept each others flaws and qualities. Learn from each other. Tust me, if the two industries start competing maturely, both will grow to a height where even Hollywood would envy.
now all those dumb down pakistani girls who drooled over bollywood actors would see their real faces. Their agenda against Pakistani cinema will start.
@rome: Some Pakistanis may like Bollywoood more than their own films because they are confused but overall I'm sure most Pakistanis would prefer Hollywood over Bollywood any day. I think Pakistanis should just watch English language movies.
@Ayesha: Please specify "very soon" Next 100 years 1000 years on Mars,,, Quite intresting,, will look forward to your deadline.
@Weirdity:
ohh! so u mean Muslims working in Bollywood are.......like Dilip Kumar, SRK,Salman, Aamir, even musicians and technicians are.... i mean u serious?
@optimist: You seem to be just out of cave. Just check when was Lagaan and Asoka made. A 2010 tamil film (nicknamed Kollywood) Robot was made with INR 150 crores.
We have a big heart and can accommodate both ........plus Kareena, Vidhya, Depika, Pryanka, and...and....and....
The movies which are real creative endeavor of Bollywood don't get release in Pakistan. "The Lunch Box" and "Bhaag Malkha Bhaag" are two (besides many others) recent examples. There's no point in scorning commercial Indian cinema and then clamping a ban on almost all the "other" kind on one pretext or other.
@Rahul: Shaan's acting skills and style make a him a natural choice for any action-packed Hollywood blockbuster.
Nowdays, pakistan has only one topic for movies and that is "Islam & Terrorism"..it's true that we pakistanis lack funds to make a good commercial movie..So we try to justify the low budgeted and poor quality movies by saying "our movies are based on serious issue and reality".. It is a matter of fact that Waar has been made outside the pakistan and all technical work is foreign.. The real pride for pakistan will come that day when whole movie is made in pakistan without any outside help.. It is amazing that our own movie Waar is 80% in English..that means we pakistani will watch it like any foreign english movie in pakistan..then how could we fight that it will hail at box office when local public will be unable to understand it...
All indians: yeah we do watch indian movies but mostly either on pirated dvds or frm internet, desihit etc sites.and for WAAR we all are definitely going to watch in on cinema as Pakistani movies are not so easily available on internet, i have searched a lot for mein hun shahid afridi, finally i had to watch the movie on big screen and truly it ws a nice movie, better than cheap indian films which u no longer can watch with ur family (plz exclude Mathira;s item number). And for our cinemas soon they wll be showing mostly Pakistani movies on their screens... PAK Cinema Revival is on its way!!
@AverageMoe: Don't you consider Shaan as a big star? If its in English, do you really expect it as a commercial hit in Pakistan? don't get it wrong, I ain't biased against Pakistani film industry. I loved '' deen me daari hai, daari me deen nahin''.
@Chicken: he is seroius, AK charges around 30 crore IND rs.that comes around 60 crore PKR
OK Big Bollywood guys! You have loads of films and you have lots of money to earn! Why that makes you so insecure of one Pakistani film?? .
Try to have a bigger hearts too!
Akshay Kumar and 60 crore? I remember his interview where he said: 'I don't know where you get these figures' when TV Anchor asked him if he gets 10 Crore! . Only few years ago, Shah Rukh Khan claimed that he made the most expensive film in Indian Hisotry with 14 Crore (Ashoka). Amir Khan claimed that he broke record of that film by spending 17 Croe on Lagaan. . Exaggeration knows no bound. Keep exaggerating!! After all it is SHOW business. . When Ali Zafar came to London, I asked him about the budget of 'Tere Bin Laden' and he said 3 Crore Indian Rupees. When I looked at the credit at the end of the film, there were nearly 70 ACTORS and dozens of technical people with Singers, dancers, choreogrpahers, extraz, make artists, light men, camera crew etc etc etc... Wonder how many Crores were given to those 350 people (out of 3 Crore budget!).
@Ayesha: "@raj: Soon you will see Indian actors coming to Pakistan to work there."
Perhaps. The difference is when a top Pakistani star gets a small role in Bollywod, it is considered a big break whereas if a Bolywood actor agrees to work in a Pakistani movie, that fact itself becomes and active marketing point.
@Plaintalk: Not For The Year 2013...
A typical bollywood movie earns in Pakistan because their is no substitute in the form of a good Pakistani movie, since Khuda kay liye, bol, Zinda bhaag, main hon shahid afridi and now Waar, the scenario has changed. I personally love Pakistani movies as they are totally different from bollywood movies and mostly adress issues commonly faced by Pakistanis. People should refrain from stereotyping bollywood movies as rubbish or saying their days are over because its far from truth. A certain class of people in Pakistan will still go to watch a Bolloywood movie. Instead they should support good Pakistani movies. As far as Waar is concerned, it will be a great hit, i can anticipate. I have been waiting for this movie for more than a year and i am ready to watch it in cinema and even buy a blue ray(which i would never do otherwise) if the movie fills up to my expectations.
WAAR is based on an indigenous militancy concept, so every Pakistani can relate to it. I am not familiar with the plot of Boss, but it is most likely based on regular Indian entertainment themes. Even though, it might not affect the revenues of Boss, but WAAR will definitely win out by a margin in Pakistan
Who is this actor Shaan ?? I mean he looks like he dint have proper sleep for years Lol
I think WAAR will be a block Bust in Pak does nt matter if Boss releases or not. WAAR has the potential. atleast pakis are going to have an awesome paki movie after a really really really long time. In India its altogether a reversed story though
Who Akshay Kumar?
@LaLakiMKaa: You shouldn't judge a movie by it's budget or it's star studded cast, but by it's story, message and acting.
'Waar' is unlike any movie released in this region, it's nothing like a Bollywood movie, and Shaan is no longer a "Gandassa Gujjar type cinematic hero", his role in Waar is similar to that of James Bond or Jack Bauer.
"and more importantly the market that is of prime importance is northamerica and South america and europe"
Are you telling me that Americans and Europeans watch Bollywood movies? Most of the people that watch Bollywood movies in the west are Desis, and Waar is an English-language movie so it's also targeting an international audience, and many Pakistani expats I know are looking forward to watch this movie, Bilal Lashari says that he's going release this movie outside Pakistan too.
Waar won't be able to compete with Bollywood in terms of commercial success because it doesn't have big stars nor does it have any item songs(it isn't even a musical), it's an action movie about Pakistan's war on terror.
@Rahul: dont be jealous of Shaan he is much more personalted than each and every indian filmstar, just watch your akshy khana he looks like my luuuun
@LaLakiMKaa: he charged what sixty crore zinbawean dollars? Talk sane kiddo!
Main noon shahid afridi was released on 40 movie screen across the country, a record for Pakistani films. We need more cinemas here. We should have thousands of screens for movies to do business. This is alarming.
Akshay Kumar charge 60 crore paki rs as his fees....so,Now u can imagine the budget of the movie.....While waar is made with a budget of 18 crore paki rs.....man seriously and how could a man with 100+ movies experience and 5000+ crore paki rs earnings be compared to Gandassa Gujjar type cinematic hero....and more importantly the market that is of prime importance is northamerica and South america and europe..........because its assume pakistani people will already see the bollywood movie as it is told in pakistan...although they keep denying.....
ET...nothing offensive...pure factual..no opinion based....get it through...
@raj: Soon you will see Indian actors coming to Pakistan to work there.
@Humza: Fully agreed.
@Ayesha: yes. A "true Muslim" will never watch Bollywood movies. :-)
Is Waar also going to win the coveted submitted to be nominated to be considered for Oscar award? That would be two Oscars in a year. The emerging Pakistani cinema has emerged.
@Ayesha: "Sorry Bollywood, but your days are over"
You mean 'over' in Pakistan? Well even if that happens, it is hardly going to be a revenue loss to Bollywood producers. Typically for movies with top stars 20% revenue comes from overseas movies. Within overseas revenue, Pakistani terroritory typically contributes 5% or 1% of overall revenue.
In any case MHSA producers did not even dare to release their movie because they were afraid of competition from Chennai EXpress. So clearly so far at least what you say does not seem to be the reality.
people in Pakistan enjoys bollywood more than lollywood. so a film here and there is no big deal. im totally against these kind of films either produced by lolly or bolly because its ruining our country values and the youngsters.
I am not sure about Pakistan but in India boss will cross 60-70 crores easily(if it's not a good movie and if it is a good one then 100+crores). Here movies with strong starcast earn this much within a week irrespective of story because movies are released on 3000+ screens. So the weekend audience is enough to make 20-30 crores. It seems strange but it's a fact.
I saw waar trailer on YouTube and it seemed like a good movie. so good luck for it.
@Ayesha: in pakistan?? who cares??
Shaan needs to stop packing in the samosa's and pakora,s if he wants to be taken seriously as a hero. He looks like a pudgy shopkeeper.
Sorry Bollywood, but your days are over.
Yes! Waar all the way!
Obviously in Pakistan, Shan's new movie will do better - even if people watch foreign films from India or Turkey, people can relate better to Pakistani films so I am sure Waar will win out.
I hope I could buy a Blu-ray not many months after the release. I would star Bilal Lashari if it gets success.
Bollywood is outdated rubbish.
