KARACHI:
Umair Jaswal, the vocalist for one of the finest rock bands in Pakistan, Qayaas, will be featuring in Coke Studio 6 without his band. Qayaas rose to fame owing to its high-octane performance on Charkha Nolakha alongside Atif Aslam in the fifth season of Coke Studio.

Jaswal, who is known for his workout routines and electrifying live performances, struggled with an identity crisis after the band performed at Coke Studio last year. “The audiences thought that my name was Qayaas. They related to me with the band’s image.”

The rock vocalist added, “There is more to Qayaas than just screams and loud riffs. This year on Coke Studio, I will try to show the mellow side of the band.”

Despite having a cult following in Islamabad and Karachi, Qayaas largely came in the limelight after their Coke Studio performance. Charkha Nolakha became the most popular track from the last season. The audience admired the rather distinctive combination of Aslam and Jaswal more than the sonically-fine production of the song.

Despite boasting a Rolling Stones-Jack Daniels for Best Rock Band, Qayaas was restricted to performing only one song out of the three it had recorded for the last season of the show. We hope that Rohail Hyatt makes better use of Umair’s rather untapped talent!
