A fire brigade was called to the Quaid-e-Azam International Airport.
"The plane carrying over 50 passengers has now landed safely," reported Aftab Ahmed, Express News correspondent.
Sources in the Civil Aviation Authority said that the plane had caught fire as soon as it took off in Karachi.
According to initial reports, the plane caught fire after it encountered a problem in the engine. An explosion was also heard by some residents of the area.
"However, one of the plane's engine was working fine which allowed it to land safely," said Ahmed.
"The airport was prepared to allow for the plane to make an emergency landing," reported Nadeem Ahmed, Express News correspondent.
Emergency has been declared at the Karachi Airport and a team of CAA also has also arrived.
No loss of life has been reported because of the accident.

@ZAIN KHAN: Well said Zain. Pilots like Captain Jarar are an asset to this country.
These pilots are heroes. They not only saved the passengers but landed the aircraft safely as well.Engine fire is the worst emergency that one can witness. They should be awarded. On the other hand investigation should be carried out was there any maintenance lapse or procedures that was due and was not carried out. Those responsible, discipline action should be taken against them.On the other hand public should understand machine can go faulty any time. Even the new aircraft can catch fire in engines. Thats the only reason Pilots have high salary. They are given for these days. I can assure you that these pilots saved millions of dollars by landing the aircraft safely. Salute to Pilots...Well Done
Well done Captain Jarrar Zafar. You are a hero today to dozens of people and their families. Thank You.

Used to travel on Pakistani airlines all the time as they were considerably less pricey .. but my grandmother kept on insisting an extra few grand is nothing compared to my life. May God rest her soul....she was right! Emirates for me it is... always! Shame that that is the airline that took tips from us...
@Azi: Don't be so quick in to make conclusions.
@ Azi. And yet, no-one was hurt, and the plane was able to land safely. It is not necessary that god work in the simplest of ways to help us.
PIA having reputation of world best pilots. No doubt Without any accident : they deserve to be the best
Alhumdurillah plane landed safely no one is hurt...definitely must be a bird strike because i remember there are lots or eagle flying on very high altitude.

"Great People To Fly With". Where has that airline disappeared? . If we did it once we can do it again!
