Police foiled a man’s attempt to forcefully marry his underage daughter in Londa area of Nissata on Saturday.
Nissata police SHO Nasrullah Khan said they were informed by a couple their son-in-law Taj Hassan was forcefully marrying his 10-year-old daughter Tanzila to a person with physical disabilities. Upon this, police rushed to Hassan’s house and took him and his daughter into custody. The accused confessed he had arranged his daughter’s wedding, but the date had not yet been finalised.
The 10-year-old’s maternal grandparents claimed Hassan was marrying off his daughters at a young age because their mother had passed away and there was no one to take care of them.
A case has not been registered against the accused, but the police have obtained an affidavit from Hassan stating he would not marry off his daughter until she comes of age.
