ISRO spokesperson dismissed suggestions that American space agency NASA may not be in a position to offer India deep space network support following government shutdown in the US.
"There is no delay," he said. "We are going ahead with our MOM as scheduled."
The Bangalore-headquartered space agency is drawing comfort from NASA's announcement that it would go ahead with its own MAVEN (Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN) mission, slated for launch as early as November 18.
This, in other words, means that NASA would have to keep its DSN, an international network of antennas that track interplanetary spacecraft missions, operational.
Once launched, the MOM would go around the earth for 20-25 days before embarking on a nine month voyage to Mars.

We south asians don't have guts to appreciate good when it comes across the border. When all Pakitanis are speaking about poverty in India, then why Pakistan government is begging and spending so much in military, good work should start from home not from neighbours. People living in glass building shouldn't throw stones on others. Being Indians we are proud of our scientist. God bless INDIA.
@Siddiqui: LOL, we are talking of real world satellites dude , not experimental nano satellites which ran for 5 months..our students in IIT has built better ones ..Badar ..you should have named it Babar , or ghaznavi,..thats your style rite..lol , the one that we launched now is as big as a car ...you uneducated fool
I really don't undrstand why pak is so so badly insecure about any indian achivement, The truth is pakistan, despite having very intelligent people over there, failed to achive anything concreret in the field of science and technology( plz, the research is NEVER BORROWED ,IT IS INGENIOUSLY CARRIED OUT !). Surprisingly, the same problems( poverty, hunger etc.)on which my pakistani friends are lecturing India ,are bothering pakistan also !!.The real problem with pakistan is that it has this very shallow, narrow "India-hatred". For last 50 years pak is not able to rise above that and that is the ultimate tragedy of pakistan's nationhood. India on the other hand,despite of all the problems managed to make mark on the world as an independant evolving nation ! and as far as suiside bombers r concerned, i hvnt heard any thing more stupid than mr Emad's comment! And No! Mr Fahad , nation's dont mk progress by JUST sending sats to mars,What these do is,they create an opportunity, a ray hope for millions across the world,and progress starts from there,But a pakistani like u wl nvr undrstand this ,coz for u,the world starts from and ends wt INDIAN BORDER !!
India launched mars mission nd we pakistani fighting for who saw moon first. . Hahahaha..a..a., . . We need to shake hands with india as littil bro. . .
All terrorists die for Allah. All who die for Allah go to heaven. All Pakis are terrorists. All Pakis go to heaven. Heaven is far far away from Mars. India launch Mars Arbiter Project. So by the common sense, Pakis are way way beyond us. They have their settlements in paradise.
@unbelievable: advanced countries dont give this technology to others mate.even our old friend russia has to reretract from its offer of giving gslv technology to india and india had to develope this tech on its own
@Poor indian:
you seem to lack basic ubderstanding of nasa help.they only monitor the spacecraft.if it has to blow off it will with or without nasa help.pity some pakistanis for your poor attitude.we are brothers but still you send terrorists and canot stomack indian efforts.change your attitude.i hope most pakistanis are not like you
Uk's industrialization was done by looted money from india ~ ..Uk currently has lot of diamonds and gold looted from india ~ as well as british gave and damaged 200 years of india in colonial period ~ .. india invented Positive and Negative numerals - place value system "Zero" - plastic surgery (sushruta is known as father of surgery) / Pingala(indian) is known as a man who first created binary number system/ wireless tech. first radio is created by indian "J.C BOSE" 1year earlier and its signal was much larger than that of marconi who developed radio one year later. / india was once mother of research in cosomoly and astronomy . without india ..science wouldnt have gone much further..cuz without maths science cant be formed..and maths started from numerals and zero from india ~ ..india is doing nothing new this time..indians loves science from ancient times..now its economy is booming hence,its back in action ~...first pentium chip was created by indian, first famous online mail service "hotmail"was created by indian as well ~ ..
@wali: Somtimes you have to fly before you walk...
@Candid1: thumbs up if u think food is available in mars...... u r the future of pakistan's fascinating education system... just for the record u polio stricken little jihadi more percentage of pak people live in povery ( sround 60% acc to BISP report 0 and more number of pak are food insecure....too bad no one looks after them.....u lag in all MDG goals... u r not even close to acheiving 1 .... our slum literacy at around 78% is far more than ur urban literacy... trolllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll :D
Maybe Indians will fnd food on Mars for their starving millions.
@TUNG: Bhai garib hee sahee, baigairat nahin! At least we are not beggers like you. You keep your focus on our toilets, and keep nurturing stretegic assets. While you lull yourself in imagining indian poverty, india keeps changing for the better. It might interest you to know that 80 lakh travel in delhi metro alone daily in air conditioned comfort at prices that the poorest can afford. Just an example. I dont think 80 lakh travel in the entire pak rail every day.
Ground realities might benumb you if you were to know some facts about india.
Read number 3 of the 'related articles' at the bottom of this article with the caption 'Indian army mistook planets for Chinese spy drones' : Report. Seems like Indian army will be having a job in their hands, a whole lot difficult. The two articles are related to each other, ironically and paradoxically.
@LaLaki:
I will please mention one thing. Dont be so proud of your equipments. I have to deal every day with Indians and their production facilities and discuss the mistakes they have. The problem is india is growing...but you are not even near being a super power than why waste billions of dollar in projects which are not the pillar for development. Windows Vista was made in India and we saw the result for Win7 Microsoft did the development in US. May be they used Indian programmers but still development place was shifted. We south asians style of work is not efficient. Thts why an Indian or Pakistan in foreign is more effect than in their countries.... In any case..Personally think India could have invested this amount for making strong pillar of its society which they did not. Please also remeber India could not control Pakistan till now and dreams of being a super power....
@wali: thank you for your concern.
it will fail im sure, sorry
Congratulations India
@B: You dont understand Sarcasm do you?
Some pakistani are jealous of our acheivement do bombing that's what you know to do nothing else.
@unbelievable: your suggestion is great ! but thats what monopolisation all about ! formation of states and divisions are just contrary to what you are suggesting ! But just imagine if this test was conducted in 1946 people living in lahore would be as proud as people living in hyderabad. but now someone in lahore feels jeoulasy and need of another such program somewhere !
Hahahahaha mars to find old glory of ashoka and and sooraj mamoo .....
Hungry india cant do any thing instead.....
developing states with 2/3 population should look for feeding them rather look for prestige!
@Pritam:
Nope....Nope....Nope. You missed the point.
It is all about geopolitics rather than saving a bull or a bucket.
EU had worked on a programme for a coordinated air traffic control for all EU countries. The spoiler was nationalistic politics rather than cost saving. The fun was, an EU air controller sitting in Czech Republic controlling the skies of UK, Italy, ...etc. This is too much for those "Common Marketers".
As soon as the first air balloon goes up in the air, mankind war hormones kicks in and we filth the air with weapons and so we did the space and soon we will do the same to Mars as well.
It is not about need, I can tell you that for sure. GPS have enough capability to serve the needs of Ten Indias. GPS is more than enough. But the Uncle Sam monopolist annual fees plus space domination should not go unchallenged. Gagan or Beidou goes by the same logic.
regards,
It would make more sense if the nations of this world would collaborate and share the cost/technology to explore space. India spending enormous sums to do the same thing that has been done a number of other times by the USA makes little sense.
@ All
For once Im with the Pakistanis. Millions on a stupid space mission??? But wait. Where did the Millions come from? Simple, FROM OUR OWN POCKET, i.e., revenue generated by the Republic of India.. Not from AID MONEY...
If Begging was an Olympic Sport, guess who'd win the most medals???
No prizes of course.
I have a serious question guys. Does it worry you Pakistanis that only kafirs (Christian, Jews and Hindus) have been able to go to the moon, does that make the moon non-halal?
@Fahad: That's right, keep your sights low. Every year that passes will see Pakistan regress by one year more, and increase your rectitude.
@wali: just like a human can walk and talk at the same time, a nation's interest can de divided. each is equally important although one interest may take precedence over the other at a certain time. however the point is india can do one task while doing the other task as well.
rather than making sarcastic comments, indians and pakistanis should appreciate each others success.
wishing good luck doesn't take money !!
@Asad Khan: Space program is necessary for running telecommunication system, television broadcasting, weather forecasting, remote-sensing, mineral mapping, air traffic control etc. Large country like India can not depend on foreign space agencies for these vital sectors, simply because our needs are enormous. An indigenous space program can and will save cost. Let me give you an example, India's own GPS system 'Gagan' is going to save fuel worth billions for airline companies and thereby ensuring savings of foreign exchange for India and also reducing carbon emission.
do we(Indians) really need a lecture on how to reduce poverty, how to generate jobs, or how to eradicate diseases from Pakistan ???
seriously @ Asad Khan the good Taliban still doesn't allow polio vaccinations in your country because it's a Jewish conspiracy. wake up guys before it's too late!!!
I am not telling we are perfect or anything, we still have severe problems but we are improving and at least we are trying to change things. I think you should do the same (all things that you have mentioned) in your country for your own gain. good luck peace :)
@Et now tell me what's abusive in this.
@Siddiqui: Thanks bhai for this information. Now face some poverty and toilet lectures against paksitan from indians. this topic is getting hot.
@wali: Can I say the same to great '' ISLAMIC NUCLEAR SUPER POWER'' ?
@raj:
Not necessarily my friend, for example, making a cruise missile would require a top notch students / experts of metallurgy, navigation, signal processing etc etc, they will get handsome salaries, drive nice cars, and satisfy the egos of some full belly citizenry......
(each & every country has one, in good old USSR they were regarded as "Chocolate Eaters".........very expensive commodity back then.)
It is all boils down to the objective aka cause aka purpose. If, the space programme is initiated for a purpose that to do experiments to find low cost medicine for eradication of diseases (quite a few chemical reactions only takes place in zero gravity condition) then it is noble and worth the effort, otherwise....... it sucks.
.....in today's world, research is blossoming in defense sector or sectors related to defence. Had there been half of that 'research' / money / energy / human hours spent on eradication diseases, fighting pollution, cleaner energy.....the world would be lot better today.
regards,
Indian ppl are dying of hunger & poverty is increasing and they want to go to mars. Without NASA support, there orbiter will blow like patakha in air.
@wali: birds dont walk they straight away fly
@M. Emad: Its a comedy and funny news for pakistan. man go ahead with your prestigious, intellectual suicide bomb and have some fun with your family.
India's success in Space Technology is nothing new, we have been building brick by brick since 1960s when modern India launched first pencil sized indigenously developed rocket from Thumba. ISRO has come a long way since then. Mars ,Moon missions are logical extension in right direction. Indian political leadership since 1947 had scientific temper , encouraged science, technology including nuclear science . All our PMs since Pandit Nehru worked hard on this. Other nations can also learn from India, if they wish to.
India to send a scientific satellite to orbit the planet Mars. Pakistan to establish writ of the state in North Waziristan. Guess which is more difficult????
Till now there has been in total 40 attempts to reach launch satellite or rover on mars but only handfull have been success so its going to be very big challenge before india. Total 18/40 successful USA -14/20 successful RUSSIA - 3/18 successful JAPAN - 0/1 successful Europe (ESA) - 1/1 partial success.
PAK neighbor had left the earth long time ago in the 1970's. It is not the destination but the journey that matters most.
Atoms, space and fusion. The countries who are involved in these areas of science will be the rulers (or survivors) for 22nd century and beyond. India is one of the world consortium of nations in fusion research, also.
What is the end goal of PAK nuclear "research" institute and missile "technology"- destructive or constructive? So far, one hears only destructive use of these technologies from PAK. PAK bomb is better and bigger than India and so on.
My challenge is still open: who is going to capture an astroid and bring it back to earth? The US, EU, India, Japan or China?
@Wali and Fahad..assuming that you are real readers who post comments and not paid readers....Satellites bring significant commercial benefits to a nation which in turn helps reducing poverty :=)
Pakistanis ware way ahead of us. Most of them have reached heavens, while we still are planning to go to Mars. Shame on us. Atleast we should not make mistakes this time and show some respect to our neighbours, and accept defeat with humility.
@LaLaki: Pakistan did launch an indigenous satellite Badr-1 way back in 1990. Read indigenous and not a Chinese one. About to launch a third one. Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission(SUPARCO) was established in 1961 even earlier than the Indian one(ISRO) established in 1969
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Badr-1
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spaceprogramme2040
And Pakistan will be fighting over who saw moon first.
@Fahad: who is saying we are not?? space programmes helps create jobs and reduce poverty now come on u know that....... india is such a huge nation....takes time...understand...!!
@Fahad: Good thought. Wait for Modi. He will build toilets. (Iam serious)
Nothing sells like "India vs Pakistan". Any Indian failure is an instantaneous celebration in Pakistan and vice verse. Any good news like this from India will get Pakistani bombardments of toilets and poverty lectures. Same well known pattern. Let us hope Indian Mars probe makes it successfully, else be ready for untimely Diwali crackers from Pakistan.
@wali: wat is pakistan famous for? And u guessed it right Mr Wali
@raj: They do not have an edge over us. We use them as fertilizers for food and vegetables. These are then exported. Have you heard them complain? My friend, this I call business finesse.
@B: to Emad Recognize sarcasm when it is clear from placement of quotation marks. May we Indians always stay "foolish" and those suicide bombers never stop hurtling towards Eternity, never to return to our world!
pakistan cannot even build satellite on their own .... they borrow/beg the used up wasted satellite paint it green with "pakistan zindabhaag" written over it nd hand it over to their fathers in the east for launch..... and then sing .. "dil dil pakistan jan jan pakistan".... lol....what a nation.....7 th failed i guess....ohh damn 10th....sorry :)
It is nice to see that India is doing really good not just in IT but also in space technology but it would be better if Indian authorities focus more on the life of common people. Unfortunately poverty is another problem in India. Even BBC and Indian media has reported that millions of Indians live below poverty line and many indians donot have access to clean water and public toilet.
Nations don't make progress by sending moon or mars mission but by having proper infrastructures and welfare of the societies, I was just reading a news on "times of India" in which still Indians were complaining about road accidents which is very common in India.
Their is a famous saying that Oonchi dukano key pheekay pakwan. I hope Indians understand this.
and our prime minister is in dream..that india will reduce its expenditure on defence and space.........India has global aspiration .....while we are still stuck with kashmir and strategic assets...whereas India's strategic assets are its people who are making all these things possible......and i would like to confess here today..my family watches more bollywood than any other Indian family and we have watched GADAR,Border,Lakshya and we liked it Indians...chak-de-fatte.....
Well done India. It's even more praise worthy that you want to do it without NASA support.
@All the Indians....
What to congratulate..these things are normal for us.....NASA has 38% people of Indian Origin..so no surprise....If we had the resources and money..we would have been there before 20 years...and if those 38% return..then america will have to go beneath the earth rather than flying out of earth.....pakistani people are also doing great in the field of science...like soon after 25 years may be they will try to launch a sattelite like India did in 1960's-70's........
Appreciate the good ,abuse the bad..instead of making everything india vs pakistan
@1984: same here....hahah.... these jealous people bring in toilets ...maybe coz they know thats the only place they have an edge over india..... ( p.s acc to report 35% pakis defecate in open.... ) ... peace :)
Let me grab the popcorn before some Pakistani comments about the toilets and Indians comment about the terrorism
@M. Emad: Thank you for using your courtesy to call us ‘foolish’. That was nice of you Mr. Terrorist
Proud of our scientists who are competing with the best in the world ie NASA.
@Malatesh:
Congrats from our side too...but it will be better to do so on Some Indian Website...:)
All the best to ISRO mars mission scientists,
india should concentrate on the starving population rather than wasting money in the air.....learn to walk before u can fly.....
When Pakistani suicide bombers blast themselves to go to eternal Heaven, 'foolish' Indians blast their multi-billion dollar rocket engines to go to Mars !
The satellite in the article's image is megha tropiques launched by ISRO in oct 2011, and not Mangalyan(india's mars satellite).
I'm wishing all the best to our scientists.
