Delivering bad news: Midwife blamed for stillbirth

Izzat Bibi had been arrested and investigation was ongoing.

BAHAWALPUR: A woman filed a complaint on Thursday against a midwife holding her responsible for her stillbirth, Nazia Bibi, a resident of Qaimpur, said her family took her to Izzat Bibi’s house near Darbar Rangeela Shah when she was in labour. She said Izzat Bibi did not attend her properly resulting in a still birth. She said Izzat Bibi locked her in a room and asked her husband for 15 steel rods for the construction of her house besides the Rs500 delivery charges. She said her husband had to call some relatives to take her back. She was then taken to Hasilpur THQ hospital. City SHO Mohsin Sardar said according to the woman’s medical report, the fetus had expired three days earlier. He said Izzat Bibi had been arrested and investigation was ongoing.
