The Balochistan administration has finally made up its mind to hold the much-awaited local bodies (LB) elections on December 7, 2013 under the watch of army and paramilitary troops.
The decision was taken at a high-level meeting presided over by provincial Chief Secretary Babar Yaqoob Fateh Muhammad.
The chief secretary directed the authorities to finalise arrangements for the LB elections in accordance with the Supreme Court orders. “It is our constitutional responsibility,” he added.
Local Government Secretary Kazim Niaz told the meeting that the elections would be held on a party basis on December 7. “The provincial assembly has already passed the amended Local Bodies Act,” he added.
The meeting decided to call in army and Frontier Corps to maintain peace during the election process.
