In keeping with the Islamabad High Court (IHC) directives, the ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) named Amir Tariq Zaman Khan as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Secretary – a role alien to PCB’s constitution – yesterday.
Khan, the additional secretary sport for the IPC, has been tasked with reducing the number of PCB employees, some of who were ‘illegally’ appointed during Zaka Ashraf’s tenure.
“The appointment is in compliance with the IHC orders and the notification had been issued earlier this week,” said IPC’s legal advisor Irfan Ullah Khan, according to ESPNcricinfo. “His job will be to retrench the unnecessary and illegally appointed employees in the PCB. The notification has also been issued and we are due to visit the PCB next week.”
The PCB has over 900 employees around the country, including employees at the National Cricket Academy and the regional associations.
