Shooting gold shared three-way
India, England and Singapore shared the gold medals in a day of thrilling shoot-offs.
Aaron Reading of England won the gold in the men’s Trap, beating Michael Diamond of Australia. India’s Harpreet Singh beat compatriot Vijay Kumar in the men’s 25-metre Centre-fire Pistol event.
Singapore bagged the third gold with Jasmine Ser Xiang Wei winning in the women’s 10-metre Air-rifle individual event. India continues to top the medal tally in shooting with 13 gold, eight silver and three bronze medals.
Despatie makes history
Canada’s Alexandre Despatie won the gold in the men’s 1-metre springboard event. He became the first Canadian to win seven gold medals in the history of the Commonwealth Games.
Sri Lanka end 60-year wait
Manju Wanniarachchi guaranteed Sri Lanka their first Games boxing medal in 60 years, while England’s Callum Smith made sure of a third medal. Wanniarachchi made sure of the medal when he defeated Kenya’s Nicholas Okoth to move into the bantamweight semi-finals.
Sania grabs bronze
In the Bronze medal match at the women’s doubles, Sania Mirza and Rushmi Chakravarthi beat Nirupama Sanjeev and Poojashree Venkatesha 6-4, 6-2 to go with the silver the Indian tennis star got in the ladies singles on Satuday.
