Pakistan protests against cross-border mortar fire in N Waziristan

Afghan Charge d’ Affaires told that such incidents undermine border coordination and cooperation mechanism in place.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Tuesday summoned the Afghan Charge d’ Affaires to the Foreign Office and a strong protest was lodged over the unprovoked mortar fire by the Afghan Border Police on September 24, 2013 in North Waziristan.

According to a statement released by the Ministry Of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, Pakistan protested against the attack which resulted in the deaths of two civilians and injured at least another.

While conveying serious concern of the Pakistan government over the cross-border fire, Afghan authorities were asked to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.

It was emphasised that such incidents undermine border coordination and cooperation mechanism in place and were detrimental to cooperative ties between the two countries.
