Despite the two-day hectic efforts, the CEC could not even shortlist the names as numerous aspirants made it difficult for the PTI Chairman Imran Khan to select the two officers.
“The CEC gave the chairman the right to decide on the issue through consultation,” according to an official statement issued on Sunday.
The CEC was deliberating on how to take back the posts of party’s secretary general from the K-P Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and K-P chapter president Asad Qaiser. Both the officers said that they were voluntarily willing to surrender their posts.
They were both elected in intra-party elections earlier this year.
The CEC meeting, presided by Imran Khan, also tried to resolve differences among senior leaders of the party maneuvering for the top offices.
“The party must resolve the differences maturely,” observed Khan who was briefed that the present Constitution as well as the amended Political Parties Order, 2002, did not provide any restriction on holding of party office as well as political posts in government.
Firdous Shamim Naqvi from Sindh and Jahangir Tareen from Punjab aspired for the post of general secretary, party sources told The Express Tribune.
Khan, however, had made up his mind to hand over this important responsibility to Sardar Ishaq Khakwani, added the sources. “I am not among the aspirants. However, if Imran Khan asks me to take up the responsibility I will work on it,” Khakwani told The Express Tribune.
Names for office of K-P president are yet to be discussed. “Remove those members who have gone public against the party, publicly discussing internal affairs in the media,” Khan directed.
The CEC also agreed that Justice Wajiuddin Ahmed would head a committee which would look into the grievances regarding intra-party elections.
Discussing discipline in the party, the CEC agreed that once the investigation into ‘obnoxious emails’ against party leadership gets completed, members who are part of these chain emails would be sternly dealt with.
Over the party’s performance report on K-P, Imran Khan expressed grave concern. He directed Khattak to improve the law and order situation as a priority. Reports on the party performance in the other three provinces were also presented.

IK and PK had to leave the meeting half way due to Peshwar tragedy, yet ET's APC (Anti-PTI Cell) had to say "much ado about nothing" ... to be frankly, this story is actually much ado about nothing.
sorry to say ET but you did not mention that meeting was cancelled due to Peshawar church blasts yesterday
Geezee So Many Internal Rifts. How can these guy govern? When they can't even handle their own problems, no wonder KPK's situation is a mess, they're all power hungry mobsters.
you guys can do your worst to demoralize PTI. We still love it. We are aware of all the games played against PTI PTI zindabad
PTI claims so much and performs so little. Imran Khan had promised to take back party posts from the key people, if they formed government. Secretary General and K-P chapter president should have resigned after taking oath. Almost four months have passed since general elections, and they have not done so.
@John: why are you commenting here then??
@Salman Ahmed
PTI is indeed a miserable failure. The thought that they will govern our province for 5 more years is making us sleepless these days.
@Humza: I don't know how well informed you are, but they have perhaps delivered more than many of the other governments.
At the centre, we don't even have a Minister of Defence...nor a Minister of Foreign Affairs....nor an ambassador to the US. Should I be worried about the PTI provincial chapter appointments or the Central Govt ministerial and other key appointments?..You decide !!!
Of course, if you use ET as your main source of information, then you would be convinced that that PTI is a miserable failure.
Thanks
@Haji: "Shame on the media who are worried about the CEC rather than reporting the Peshawar blast." . Do you read the same ET which is available to the whole world or have to wait for 90-days before reading it?
@John: Instead of switching over, speak up against yellow journalism. This is our platform, we need to put fight instead of surrender our-self's and give them a free passage.
@Zuhair, take it light. This is journalism and this is news that will be covered by everyone. No need to get upset whenever you see a negative news about PTI.
PTI is going through a learning curve and they will soon figure out ways to handle these issues swiftly.
@Zuhair It's because they promise so much and deliver so little. It is the job of the media to keep political parties and governments in check.
ET please can you get over with it already - why is PTI on your nerves and in your headlines ALWAYS?
