The Prime Minister said all six programs were designed to hone and harvest skills of the Pakistani youth, on whose welfare and standing the country was depending for its future.
"Even with a lack of resources, we're living up to our mandate and working to open up new opportunities with these programs," said Nawaz.
He said that government jobs were shrinking across the globe and in such an environment, it was important to open up new economic fronts for advancement. However, corruption under previous governments had eaten away the country's major assets, leaving the economy in an extremely precarious situation.
"Our biggest corporations are buckling under years of overstaffing, embezzlement, nepotism and corruption conducted during previous regimes," said Nawaz. "The examples of PIA, Pak Steel Mills and Pak Railways are in front of you."
The premier then went on to elaborate the six schemes briefly.
1. The micro-interest free loan scheme is targeted at disadvantaged sections of the society and will benefit two hundred and fifty thousand people. An allocation of Rs3.5 billion has been made during the current financial year.
2. The second scheme is for small business loans for those youth who were educated and/or skilled and wished to become entrepreneurs in their industry. Five billion rupees have been allocated for the scheme, which will give out loans ranging from Rs 0.5-2 million.
3. The youth training scheme will provide training for entry into the job market to an estimated 50, 000 potential graduates who have completed 16 years or more of education. This scheme has Rs4 billion earmarked for it.
4. The youth skilled development scheme will provide technical and vocational training to students who have passed the eighth grade. They will be given six months of training in different trades along with a scholarship of Rs5,000 a month.
5. Under another scheme, the government plans to sponsor the tuition fees for the higher studies of financially deprived students. The government will pay at an average, forty thousand rupees of annual fees on behalf of each of the 30,000 students for MA‚ MSc and higher level education. This scheme is being launched at a cost of Rs1.2 billion.
6. Another scheme was launched for the provision of laptops to 100,000 students. This will incur a cost of Rs4 billion rupees.
The Prime Minister said the Federal Cabinet had already approved basic structure of these schemes, but they were open to more suggestions on making these schemes more transparent and just.

It's very good step taken by the PM but it has to be make sure that every one could get equal benefit of this scheme, not only the ones who have political connection or having the power for that or already have every thing, due to this the poor youth will remain there, even after launching alot of schemes, where we(the poor) are standing today. So, plz do somthing for the poor with full sincerity and honesty.

Mr. Prime Minister seems to be mainly focusing on the upper middle class and elite class, which in long term will make extremely broad the class difference between lower classes and upper middle class. In that case aggression will be from the lower classes and their will be more cases of crime as they have to live by hook or crook to feed their family.
This is very good step fron our prime minister side,so that poor people should b take the advatage from this scheme.who do not achive the education due to poverty, including me.
Thank u. M.javed
This is very good step from prime minister side.many poor should be take the advantages from this scheme.so they mai b achive their education ,who cannot achive the educatuon due to poverty, including me.
It is a very good step taken by the Prime Minister in the right direction, but the PM has to make sure that the all the youths should get equal benefit of the schemes, not only the ones who have political connection in the country. I am talking in the interest of a common man in Pakistan, nor for those who already have every thing with them but will again be standing in the queue to take benefit of the schemes and the poor youth will remain there, even after launching the schemes, where they are standing today.
Thank you Mian sb for all this but real problem is the problem of implementation. it requried corruption free enviorment. Maqsood Ali 0300-4572458
• The performance report of the internees should be sent directly to the ministry from the concerned mentor/official without the internee’s knowledge. So that the evaluation is done in a transparent way leaving no space for breaching of rules by the internee. • Guidance can be given as to how use the loans i-e business plans and schemes. • The reimbursement tenure should be expanded. • Skill development plan should be made keeping in view the demands and needs of the day and era so that when the youngsters do get skilled they have the scope to work in the area they have chosen.
i think it is really prudent step taken by the present government in the favour of poor and destitute section of the society.it is crystal clear fact that our society has been victim of severe poverty and unemployment.this schemes would be proved magic stick to change the future of society as whole.thanks a lot prime minister of pakistan

@WAKEEL RANA: Few places you have to call bro: Your counselor, your college or school, you MNA office, local bank, and local USAID office possibly. These places if can't help you, will definitely direct you toward real and cheaper source. You won't quit business, right? Don't give up finding the money source... Its part of "business".
this is a great step for the future of pakistan;
nawaz shareef should also take some steps for the people of tribal areas specially for south waziristan citizens.

Sir this scheme will be for poor people but they are not benefited from this.becuase merit doesnot matter in pakistan.just crouption is in pakistan.we are from lower punjab.all the benefit govt gives only lahore. I donot think this scheme will be good for backward area people because they are not living in lahore.

@MOHAMMAD NADEEM MALIK: How come your comments are verbatim identical with comments of anayah on Sep 21, 2013 - 9:36PM?
t is a very good step taken by the Prime Minister, but the PM has to make sure that the all the youths should get equal benefit of the schemes, not only the ones who have political connection in the country.

Nice yar miya nawaz sharif
Nobody has commented on my question about reasons (if any) of Sharif sahab not touching on peace talk with TTP! I think that topic has higher priority than distributing laptops!
@NuPak And what would "Re.a.ya" mean?
@common pakistani: Dear all "common" Pakistanis! You folks are right...this scheme is not for promotion of education or world awareness of Pak students, but for social & political purpose. Mr Shahbaz Sharif brought this idea originally, to basically challenge to IK's followers' online presence and to atleast respond to their comments at papers like this one and for election campaigning and networking among the supporting crowd from colleges.
@Muhammad: I agree with you. Like YouTube, Pakistan should ban facebook, too! Not only Pakistan, but all countries in South Asia should ban facebook!
According to deepest economic view it is waste of money. Because this package is for brilliant student who are already success in their field. And these people are very minor in quantity. In Pakistan at this time circumstancess for low level or publicly business is not good and not reliable. I think this huge amount should be used to produce energy for example solar system. 20 billion is enough to purchase solar system for certain level. Industries that exist in pk if will run with that energy it is guaranty that major group of public will be gain benifit. Because most of industries are finished or temorary ristricted.
Are private sectors eligible for Nawaz Sharif scheme??? Plz reply
Thanks to PM sahab
A good system would be creat by Nawaz Sharif
It looks to be a very good beginning.
Sir i would humbly suggest if you put more money into the skill developemnt of the youth , this country is gureented to change within next few years , inshallah with allh's help and your sincere efforts we will be one of most respectable of nations on earth .As you already said yourself road to prosperity is very painful and full of obstecels , but i m sure allah will help us .All over the world its skills development of the people that goverments foucs on . kindly check the models of countries like Uk , Australia , Turkey . we can learn a lot from them , Sir my humble prayers and well wishes are you as i m sure millions in pakistan pray everyday for your success .Because your success is pakistan' success . allah bless pakistan , ameen
I had read that Sharif sahab was going to take Pakistani people in confidence & tell them his ideas about 'peace talks' with TTP also. However, it took a back seat, it seems.
Youth may have to go to India to charge the lap top battery . Mr PM please let us know where this money is coming to buy lap tops or your family is opening a lap top business. Please attend current problem country is facing . God bless you .
A computer laptop will cost Rs. 50000/- to PML-N Govt, while 2nd hand laptop is available just in Rs. 15000/- for middle class student like me ... BTW smart phone is available in the range of Rs 7000/- can be used for internet usage ... Its a fact that 99% of student in laptop scheme utilized it for facebook ... so what's new in laptop scheme for youth ?
Laptops: if there could be stricter rules in say winning laptops instead of just randomly distributing. Make all the interested students sit through classes that teach HowToGoogle, and ThePowerOfTheInternet to gain Knowledge. Whoever performs well in the classes wins. Simple!
All this time all they could come up with was this. Disappointing.
How about a library worth 40 Lac Rupees in 1000 cities across Pakistan? Chaalees lac! #givelibrariesnotlaptops with a budget of 4 Billion for laptops!
@ishtiaq: All political schemes are drams to some extent but at least the current Prime Minister is trying. It is the job of common citizens to support the government in its plans to develop the nation. As a young person I welcome these new schemes to empower youth in Pakistan.
Thanks Mr Sharief Now we will be No 1 country looking in to forbidden material . Free lap top Zinda Bad
No doubt it a good initiative for the youth who want to be entrepreneurs, it will reduce unemployment, but if Mian Saab ensures that below will never happen, Again.. during his Regime.
“Our biggest corporations are buckling under years of overstaffing, embezzlement, nepotism and corruption conducted during previous regimes,” said Nawaz. “The examples of PIA, Pak Steel Mills and Pak Railways are in front of you.”
What really needs to be done in the education sector is upgrading school curricula and ensuring proper teacher training. And most importantly equality of education. Every person, regardless of rich or poor, being part of the same system of learning.
Allocating so many funds for a few students is just injustice. It will only bridge the gap between the highly educated and those who are struggling to gain even the most basic of education.
@Iman: Thats how many students are in urban Punjab.
Thank you Mian sb for all this but real problem is the problem of implementation. it requried corruption free enviorment.
@ Ashir If you able to get a shop, you can change my name. Its just a dram, nothing else. They will just facilitate people with strong reference
NS should have made 3 million youth as Parliamentary Secretaries. The problem solved. He is learning nothing from the party of "change".
I really need this laptop, but sorry my vote is for IK
Just wait. Only rich will get benefit from this. These politicians are just good in making this nation fool
i really appreciate to my beloved Prime minister of Pakistan sir by profession i m photographer but i dont have any shop plz do me a favour 03472652950.
This is funny when 85 years old Mr SirTaj aziz is holding two positions and his close relatives are holding key positions then talking about youth empowerment is a total fraud
Great step to curb un-employment.
Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif are only trying to target youth to compete with Imran Khan which they never can. These two fallacious brothers are trying to fool the youth like they did to the whole nation in the last elections to get their votes.
Given the Pakistani enterprenuerial talent, the above schemes of micro credit, vocational and skills training, entrepreneurship assistance etc. can have some interesting consequences for the world.
I anticipate stricter laptop controls at airports going into effect!
You cant make nation on these measures. An intelligent person can easily smell it as a Joke for a political gain
My vote is for IK, carry on with you balderdash thinking and rhetoric
Who will control inflation and dollar price against ruppee ?. Nice way to cover your failed governance measures
Azizi told these things a day before in his program and purpose of it. We are not interested !!
90 perc of this youth dont know how to use laptop in best possible. If you wana engage this youth in facebook, surely this nation will make history and other schemes just limited to 50,000 and 30,000 students all over Pakistan. Even they cant cover university of punjab in that scheme. Mr Nawaz, what about other youth?, look upon your faces ?
This is just to cover up their miss governance of last 100 days. What a cheap way to cover your mistakes. In Pakistan where petrol cost around 110 Rs and dollar is at 107, who needs laptop ?
It is a very good step taken by the Prime Minister, but the PM has to make sure that the all the youths should get equal benefit of the schemes, not only the ones who have political connection in the country.
I am talking in the interest of a common man in Pakistan, nor for those who already have every thing with them but will again be standing in the queue to take benefit of the schemes and the poor youth will remain there, even after launching the schemes, where they are standing today.
ET comment censorship delay sucks
PM should address the nation weekly (brief, objective, update on progress, direction and way forward) like US presdient's weekly radio address . Is PM on social media like many others inlcuding Indian PM, US president, Malaysian PM ?
Peanuts
While I appreciate the focus on youth but 'Miles to go before I sleep...'. To me following are equally important and critical : merit and transparency implicit in the policy; job creation ; nurturing the entrepreneurship; encouraging innovation and technological development; facilitating the businesses through bringing in efficiency and transparency in goverment departments;
from where the money will come..by printing more money leading to more inflation..already 500 billion Rs.taken from state bank of pakistan in 100 days
At least pre-load the laptops with science books and videos.
30,000 and 50,000 students will get benefit. What about 99.9 perc of other population ?
If IK had announced these schemes, We would have accepted these with tears in eyes, and chanted CHANGE all across.
Is this nation so dumb, that we again started believing him ?. Really, no wonder we are failed nation
This should be done on merit only and let Transparency International certified that.
Simple maths. 3.5 billion allocated for loans that are of 1 million each. That makes it 3000 people. What about the rest of 99% of youth?
A great initiative. Hope it will be instrumental in alleviating poverty and joblessness, plus it is good to direct youth towards something constructive, will prevent them from falling prey to negative elements..
Thank you PTI for forcing these status quo parties to do something for the youth.
It is a very good step taken by the Prime Minister in the right direction, but the PM has to make sure that the all the youths should get equal benefit of the schemes, not only the ones who have political connection in the country.
