KARACHI:

Zafar Baloch - the slain leader of the outlawed Peoples Amn Committee - was laid to rest on Thursday afternoon.

Baloch, who was a prominent personality and was serving as a bridge between the administration and Lyari residents, was gunned down in his own stronghold by armed motorcyclists along with his guard on Tuesday night when he was on his way home on a motorcycle.

His funeral prayers were offered at Football grounds in Lyari and were attended by a large number of people, including Pakistan Peoples Party leaders Javed Nagori, Najmi Alam and Qadir Patel. Later, Baloch and his guard were laid to rest at the Mewa Shah graveyard.

The mourners who were part of the funeral procession staged a protest against the killing and demanded the law enforcers arrest the culprits. While parts of Lyari remained shut, no major untoward incident was reported.
