Helping hand: Water monitoring lab staff trained by experts

Laboratory staff at the Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) is expected to better manage their laboratories and adhere to international standards, after they attended a tw0-day training workshop that concluded on Wednesday.


The workshop on “The Basic Concepts on Principles of ISO/IEC 17025: 2005” was organised under the European Union-funded Trade Related Technical Assistance Programme.

The trade programme is being implemented by United Nations Industrial Development Organisation in association with International Trade Centre and World Intellectual Property Organisation.

Thirty-one PCRWR technical staff from PCRWR laboratories across the country, three officials from the Punjab Food Authority and two officials of the National Reference Laboratory for Poultry Diseases participated in the workshop.

They were briefed about laboratory accreditation steps, calibration and verification methods for measurements, record keeping and quality assurance. Participants also learned to formulate business plans for laboratories to ensure sustainability.

The training was conducted by Dr Upali Samarajeewa and Subadra Jayasinghe.
