Police scam: 3 to be tried by anti-corruption court

The accused will be produce before an anti-corruption court on today.

LAHORE: A judicial magistrate has directed Model Town police to produce before an anti-corruption court three men accused of duping the Police Department into issuing transfer orders for some 150 non-existent policemen. Model Town police brought Constable Ramazan, Jahangir and Qaisar before the magistrate on Tuesday asking that they be remanded in their custody. SHO Ghulam Dastgir told the court that the three men had been arrested on a tip-off. He said that they charged people between Rs300,000 and Rs500,000 to get them “recruited” to the Police Department. They would do so by submitting applications to the department asking for the transfer of a certain constable, even though that person had never actually been hired by the police. Upon obtaining the orders, the person in question would report to the police station they were transferred to. The SHO said that investigations into the scam were ongoing. The accused would be produced before an anti-corruption court on Wednesday (today), he added.
