The investigation team for the case found the MQM leader to be not guilty in the killing of two policemen.
Hashmi had been arrested from his residence for alleged involvement in the double murder. He was booked and arrested under terrorism and murder charges.
"Interrogation proved that the allegations levied against him proved to be false, and he will be released today," said Wasiq Muhammad, Express News correspondent.
Last week, Hashmi was brought to the court for remand in an armoured personnel carrier escorted by five police vans.
Hashmi had told the court that on the day of the incident, he was visiting a friend whose father had passed away.
“I have not ridden a motorcycle in the last 25 years, but the police have written in the FIR that the suspects were riding motorcycles,” he had said to the court.
MQM had staged a walkout from a Sindh Assembly session in protest of the arrest of Hashmi and other party leaders.
After Hashmi is released, a report will be submitted in court stating that the MQM leader was investigated but found to be not guilty, Express News reported.

@Aftab: "Nadeem Hashmi’s arrest, and more importantly his treatment like a criminal, was against the basic human right principle “innocent until proven guilty”. Unfortunately, the entire MQM faces the same treatment." . Make a guess, why?
Nadeem Hashmi's arrest, and more importantly his treatment like a criminal, was against the basic human right principle "innocent until proven guilty". Unfortunately, the entire MQM faces the same treatment.
@tariq: Gosh, how did you find out I am a heavy weight, it was a state secret :), thanks for the support though. I have been commenting regularly on ET for the past 2 years, but after the elections some people seem to have lost it altogether, perhaps election result affected their mental faculties
@Imran Nazimabadi: Have PPP paid for damages/financial losses that this city sustained on the eve of Benazir Murder. Women were kidnapped and raped, factories were burnt while people working inside.I remember Lakson Tobacco Company was completely destroyed.Had you called for the same at that time. Have you called for to bring to justice taliban who are burning schools, destroying mosques & Imam bargah and killing people in the state of pray, railway tracks, looting banks, killing innocent civilians including army and attacking on atomic stretigic assets.Have you forgotten attack on mehran air base destroying Owaks plane cost in billions.Go to your papa Zardari and ask him to pay back the losses they made on the eve of BB murder.Go to your grand papa taliban to pay back the losses they have made during the last 12 yrs.
The decision to release NH is a slap on the faces of those who were calling him criminal.
@Khurram A. Noorani: Burnol will not work for them
Nadeem Hashmi might be off the hook in this particular case as police might have been unable to find any clue or witnesses must have been reluctant to testify against him coz of fear that their fate won't be any different the the fate of witnesses of Journalist Wali Khan Babar.
Simply because police have been unable to find any evidence against him doesn't necessarily mean that he is a clean man,guy is unit incharge of his party and notoriety of these unit incharges is hidden from none.
They should arrest him in another case that should be filed against him and his leadership(both local and foreign) on behalf of citizen of Karachi for burning and destroying Karachi during voilent strike and causing billions of Rupees loss to economy. This so-called manadate of Karachi gang should be asked to pay back all these billions lost during strike as fine.
Mr Zardari, you should have known better.
@Aysha M:
You are Ayesha M and I am Ayesha N. Big difference.
And I agree with you. Sindh Urban, with its unique culture, language, history, dress, cuisine, way of greeting, history, etc has always supported MQM. Why else would they donate billions of rupees to them every month?
@Fayez: Thanks
Hounding MQM is and will remain a zero sum game. For the last 30 years people of Karachi have not budged from their resolve to support the party who they think best represents the cause of urban Sindh. It is in the best interest of all involved to accept the genuine mandate of MQM and translate that into authority that governs urban Sindh. So GET UP KARACHI and demand for a powerful local government

This proves that all the allegations against MQM are false. But the assault on Karachi by rural elements continues.
MQM is a peace-loving party and unlike other parties, it promotes harmony between all the communities living in Karachi and it also respects the police.
Remember. All people are innocent. But MQM people are more innocent than others.
Will this ever stop? When i went to a news item on Baradar, there was already a comment sitting there with my ID
@Omar Yaqub: he was not even at the Scene due to funeral in a family.
@Hasan: If concrete proof and evidence were needed to pick up someone for investigation, then that means a trial should be first completed before person can be arrested - right How else can yuo determine if proof was concrete or not?
@Ayesha N: "This proves that all the allegations against MQM are false. "
How so? It just proves THIS allegation proved wrong/
All those on here criticizing the justice system for releasing Nadeem Hasmi, why don't you express the same concern when Taliban, LeJ, LeT, fighters are set free by our courts? When I see these sort of comments, I can say as Pakistanis WE are to blame for all the problems we are facing today. Everyone is quick to criticize justice because its an MQM guy, had it been a Taliban fighter no one would care to express any concern over his release its quite pathetic.
Also, clearly none of you have any knowledge of the FIR and on what grounds he was arrested. Because had you known, you would know he was arrested without any concrete proof or evidence. So please learn to be impartial, and don't let your hate for MQM ruin your logical thinking. Pakistani's double standard is sickening.
ET Please Print This.
@Pakistani: I say we export the MQM to London, its global HQ. I am sure they will be welcomed. Please leave Karachi alone.
Good for MQM. Now MQM should pay for damages/ financial losses during strike.
Feeling sad for the police officials who arrested and remanded this "INNOCENT" men, what will happen to them now? news in corner column of newspaper after some time: "unknown men opened fire on police officials involved in hashmi house raiding and arresting, all officials died on the spot".
This is the time to give MQM the city administration so that great development era of Mustafa Kamal can be revived
@haroon: Court orders are not made by PMLN (technically speaking)
If everyone is innocent in karachi, who is killing people then? Pmln fails to bring justice, no surprise me.
This Man is amazing, Congratulation Nadeem!
Lastly, the truth came out. Can forces (Captain) that ordered the arrest of Nadeem Hashmi, tell us what prove they had to arrest him? What concrete evidence/witness was it that caused them to determine that it was Nadeem Hashmi who killed two innocent Policemens?
@Ayesha N: Haha, I love the sarcasm....
The real culprits are still killing innocent people and collect bhatta but our sindh police one of the most corrupt in the world and run by the ppp don't care much about karachi people but there national agenda in sindh
So this was part of the deal to appease MQM, what a great service to the country.
we are so much afraid of MQM...lets buy some bangles. ..:/
Now Governor Sindh will return from Dubai...
Burnol for PTI Walaas please!
"The investigation team for the case found the MQM leader to be not guilty in the killing of two policemen." . A day of mourning in the camp of MQM opponents.
Where are those who were saying Burn the city down? Instead of burning the city, MQM should welcome the decision that their former MPA is innocent..
Congratz to Aysha M
This was a time wasting tactic by the Sindh government to not do operation against criminals. Still no operation on Al-Asif, the HQ for illegal business in Karachi, a safe house for the Karachites killing arsenal.
This proves that all the allegations against MQM are false. But the assault on Karachi by rural elements continues.
MQM is a peace-loving party and unlike other parties, it promotes harmony between all the communities living in Karachi and it also respects the police.

"Found not guilty". I think you mean the police had insufficient evidence to link him to the committing of a crime. Only a court can determine whether a person is guilty or otherwise.
A small example of how, in most cases, MQM workers get arrested on fake charges for the achievement of anti-mqm political propaganda. This person was an ex-MPA and so his case saw limelight. Thousands arrested and tortured throughout the 1990s had similar stories - fake charges, but being punished for being mqm members.
What the.......
So what has MQM agreed to now?
that is the issue, everyone in Karachi is innocent.
can we expect any real justice with our current rotten system?
When have we found any1 "guilty" of any crime from any party? what a joke !
