KARACHI: The top prosecutor of Sindh, Shahadat Awan, resigned from his post on Monday. His resignation has come two days before the Supreme Court’s larger bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, is scheduled to take up the Karachi law and order case at the SC’s Karachi registry on September 18. Awan sent his resignation to the competent authority, citing personal reasons for opting to step down. Sources said that the PG office’s role had become all the more important because of the prevalent  lawlessness in the city, where nearly 5000 people have been killed since October 2011, but very few people have been tried and taken to the task.
