Sindh High Court chief justice Mushir Alam said on Saturday that the Islamic laws have been formulated in such a distorted manner that their application is rather defaming the religion, as seen in the Shahzeb Khan’s murder case.
Last week, Khan’s family reached an ‘out-of-court’ settlement with four convicts sentenced to death and life imprisonment by an anti-terrorism court.
Addressing the judicial officers and the convocation of the Women Islamic Lawyers Forum, he observed that application of Islamic laws was the need of the hour, but the same have been made in such a manner that their application is rather defaming the religion.
CJ Alam said that he had rejected the government’s report proposing names of individuals for appointment of judges to the SHC to ensure merit in the process.
He claimed that all the appointments in higher and lower judiciary were made purely on the basis of merit.
He said justice should be dispensed to everyone on the basis of equality and merit.
