RAWALPINDI: A police officer shot and injured a motorcyclist in the jurisdiction of Gawalmandi Police Station on Saturday. Muhammad Abbas, a resident of Gawalmandi, was returning home from a function late at night from Dhok Khabba. When he was near Lal Haveli, a police officer at a picket signaled him to stop.  “But he sped away, infuriating the police who opened fire, injuring him seriously,” said Sher Bahadur, father of the injured. A police official said the injured person’s motorcycle was non-custom paid, and thus he sped away fearing it might be confiscated if he stopped. “The policemen thought he is a thief and opened fire on him,” he said. Abbas has been shifted to Benazir Bhutto Hospital where doctors said his condition is critical. An FIR has been registered against the cop, whose name could not be ascertained.
